Some people say that it doesn't matter wich brake fluid you'll put into your system. However, someone told me that there is a special FLUID, which comes in 2 bottles and costs around 20 bucks is needed.

Is it worth buying this one or just spend 4 bucks on the reg. fluid at Kragen store???

I use ATE Super Blue in my car. I didn't know it wasn't DOT approved because of the color though. Oh well, I'm happy as long as it meets or exceeds the requirements. It certainly holds up to the heat generated on the track.

 

Huh... I thought it was some kind of regulation that it had to be DOT approved. Guess not. Are there many out there non- DOT approved?

Well, I really have no idea if it actually is DOT approved or not. To be used on the road legally it needs DOT approval. The can says "Racing" brake fluid on it. The can also goes on to says it surpasses DOT 3 and 4 standards as well as the German standard, but it does not specifically say it IS DOT approved. My post was referring to the link which Jeff provided. Through there I found this:


My conclusion: ATE Type 200 and Super Blue are not only the cheapest of the performance brake fluids, they are also the cheapest per degree of boil protection, and have a very high 6-month BP estimate. In addition you can alternate with each change and the color difference will tell you when you're done. [Note that ATE Blue is not DOT-approved because of the color.] ATE and some of the higher-performance fluids are available from ogracing.com.

I'm happy with it either way and won't lose any sleep over it.

 

I use Motul 600, expensive stuff, but not really worth it.

 

I'm running Ford Hi Temp Dot4 fluid and it's been great. I got it because it's a lot cheaper than Motul and it's available at any Ford dealer. However, last time I tried to buy it at a dealership they said they don't make it anymore though It also clearly states on the label the fluid is to be used for the Ford Focus

Valvoline Synthetic Brake Fluid. Great stuff for the price. The spec on it is pretty close to racing type fluid ie. ATE or Motul. http://www.valvoline.com/
