Do you have snow tires or at least some decent all season ones with thread left? ABS?

I just read that sticky up top, don't want to read anything like that ever again, especially about a fellow Maxima enthusiast.

Good luck, be safe man.. drive carefully.

I have almost brand new Dunlop SP5000s that are pretty good for all-season performance tires in the snow.....I don't have ABS....I actually hate ABS...I've had it on 2 of my 4 cars....and I'll stay without it anyday.....

Yea lots of people say that. I never had a car with ABS, yet I did run into a few fender benders last year with my old maxima, mostly because of ****ty tires. I actually had 3 incidents within 40 minutes, it just fell like a **** and everyone was crashing into each other lol. SP5000s are great all season tires, I considered them too Just remember to drive slower in snow and don't spray

My opinion on ABS

Snow-it sucks, I think it makes you stop slower sometimes. When there is a lot of snow you can lock the tires and the snow will pile up in front of the tires and stop you. You're alright as long as you remember to take your foot off the brake to steer (this is where a lot of people **** up).

Rain-ABS is a life saver. I don't know about you guys but my Maxima's brakes are terrible, it's the thing I hate most about the car. In the rain sometimes I will barely apply pressure and they'll lockup on me.

I want brakes like my dad's RX300...it's one of the best things about his car. Pedal feel, great bite, and stops pretty fast for a SUV. The pedal is just soft enough, but not too soft. You also don't have to push in far to get some good grip.

Re: My opinion on ABS

ABS is not really meant to help you in the snow . . . unless your tires already have good grip in the snow. ABS is uspposed to keep your brakes at their threshold. in snow, the threshold is disgustingly low and useless.

Given that the 4th gen maxima is one of the lightest 4 door sedans out there, snow grip is terrible on any perfromance tire.

If I were you Briguy, I hope you at least downgraded to 15" stock steelies and put some very thin tread on them. That's really your best bet. I just took off my 15s. I have 195 tread on them, even smaller than stock. The car looked ugly as hell! I Never got a chance to use their snow ability this year, but they gave me alot of confidence last year.

Yo Brian. Keep those itchy fingers OFF that NOS Switch! Turn off your bottle heater. It is blistery cold outside and you do not need NOS.
Drive safe...keep rpms below 3,000 & you should be okay!

I'd like to try my 18's in the snow, they are M+S rated and the treads seem deep. But it doesn't snow in Philly. People tell me it does, but I think dey playin'!!

My RS-A's never let me down in the snow. I don't know why their treadwear was only 240 though, that's low like a high perfromance tire. Their load capacity was kinda low being 91H. The 235/40-18's have the same thing in a 91W--you'd think that with 2" less sidewall the load rating would be much less than the stockers.

ABS doesn't really help you stop Quicker but much rather give you steering control while on Brakes Hard. I have it on my 3000GT but not on the Max. Twice I flat spotted the tires during a Panic stop. But that was when I first got my license. Now I can stay calm and Keep the brakes at its limit.
As far is ABS ruining your stopping distance on ICE and Hard packed snow. I agree. I drove my moms GS400 in the snow before and I was gradually coming to stop and at about 15 Mph the Tires Locked and ABS intruded and caused me to stop like 30 FT further with the Pedal Virbrationing...I just put more pressure on them and the Car kept trying to push my foot of the brakes...kinda made me mad

Good Luck and stay safe

yeah they're really good in snow I got em a month & a half ago those sp 5000 tires, btw slightly off topic, hows the steering feel on those vs yr previous tire? mine soften up a lot (feels like buick...)after I changed to sp 5000 from goodyr eagle ga stock tires I dunno why but it feels really bad.
