If you don't get a K&N you risk clogging up your mass air flow sensor which is like a 300 dollar part. Spend the money up front instead of having to buy a K&N later once you've already got the other filter and found out it sucks.

The APC filter is fine. I was running the PepBoys-rice section-special APC filter when I had my custom "Pop-charger", and I'm still using that same filter now on my WSP CAI. The difference in quality/performance isnt justifiable by the difference in price. The APC is just as good, and in will no way harm your car. It's every bit as good as the K&N.

bottom line..want an intake from someone who makes everything from clear corners to coilovers to lightbulbs or want one from someone who has the best name in and specializes in high performance air filters ? dont seem like a tough choice to me,i just ordered a brand new K&N popcharger off ebay $70

James is right. I personally would go with the K&N because I always have for many years, for the same reason(s) Rancid stated, but James is still right. Years ago when K&N hasd the patent on the technology that might have been different but now a cone filter is a cone filter for the most part. I'm just loyal to the brand, so sue me .
