EGT Probe Install and Guage Questions

I had a few more questions about the EGT probe install...

I bought the probe with the clamp built onto it. Directions say to drill a 1/4" hole in the exhaust pipe and strap the probe into the hole. Has anyone installed this type or probe? Is there any exhaust leaks? Any recomendations.

I'll ask again...which part of the Y? Front or back? I've read that many people recommend the back, yet some use the front (MardiGras if I'm not mistaken).

Also..under normal driving what are your EGT's? Just so I know that everything is working properly.

Thanks!

Re: EGT Probe Install and Guage Questions

I have an APEXi EGT gauge, it is different than yours. My temp probe is in the exhaust manifold. You will have lower readings than me because your probe will be in the y pipe. I peak at @805c with juicy boost and 780c with just boost.

I got the better probe that comes with a bung. Weld the bung on and stick the probe in. Two locking nuts to hold it in place. My installer did it at the y-pipe because he was lazy. It's on the rear bank of the Y-pipe.

What EGT's do you guys see with normal driving (not WOT or Peak)? Just highway cruising.

Which manifold? Does it matter that the probe is only taking readings from one side(I assume)?

It all depends on the load and speed I'm going. Cruizing 70mph..~1100F. All I know is going WOT around 100mph. I'm at 1300F. With nitrous I'm at 1400F. Anything higher than 1400F around 100mph. I'm running lean.

Well I'm sure it does matter, but I'm not launching a space shuttle here Cylinder 5 is the best place to mount.

Refresh my memory...that's the left side of the engine right (the half closest to the radiator)?

Shuttle MardiGras you are a go for water/alcahol injection and 2.87 pulley upgrade.
