I got my first nitrous kill tonight. =)

Tonight, I had my first on-the-bottle kill (80shot). I was the only car stopped at a red light when I saw a car with familiar looking HID's and yellow foglamps (I immediately thought to myself, "yeah...Lexus GS...this may be fun...) come up directly behind me and then switch over to the lane next to me. I look over and see a young guy in the driver seat with a couple of his friends looking over at my car. I rev. He smiles, says something to his friends in the car, and revs back.

Now the good part. The light turns green. We both launch. The nitrous kicks in 3400rpm and my tires immediately break loose and spin all the way up to redline. I let up on the juice to regain traction and eventually grab second gear (my tranny shifted at 6700rpm!!!! OMG! ) At this time, he's about 3 car lengths in front (I can see dual shiny exhausts, but can't make out which model GS it is, let alone try - I'm concentrating on other things at hand ).

The nitrous kicks in again, & unfortunately for him, I have no traction problems in second gear. I reel him in HARD with my CAI screaming and the wonderful psssssssssshhhhhhhhhhh sound of the nitrous flowing. I proceed to pass him quite easily, quickly increase my lead to about 3 carlengths and slow down for the upcoming light.

We both stop at the redlight, the driver and his friends seem very excited, they immediately roll down their windows and motion for me to do the same.

him: you have nitrous, huh?!?!
me: *nods head*
his friends (to the driver): oh ****, you got sprayed on!!!...hahaha...etc...
me: hey, nice GS you got there! 400?
him: nah, it's a 430. damn your car is fast!!!!!! what do you have under the hood?!?!
(Didn't I just acknowledge to him that I was spraying? I dunno, I guess he didn't believe me or perhaps my *nod* wasn't sincere enough hahaha)
me: bolt-ons (hey, technically my nitrous kit is a bolt-on hehe)
him: what do you mean?
his friends (to the driver): like intake, exhaust, etc...
me: yeah, something like that

The light turns green again and the same thing happens, I smoke my tires up to redline in first, he gets the lead, but in second, I'll quickly reel him in and pull on him HARD. We chit-chatted some more at the next light and finally went our separate ways...

Next time, I'll try spraying at a higher RPM in first gear and see if that'll help my traction problem. Anyway, all in all, I'm very pleased with my car tonight. I EASILY killed a modded (exhaust, at least) GS430. I can't imagine what sort of 1/4 mile times one would get spraying with NO traction problems! All I've got to say is that nitrous is crazy...and addicting.

just cuious, but wouldn't it be better to not spray at all in 1st? I mean save your tires, your engine, and keep the other car from gtting a lead? BTW 80shot!! hell yeah, that's what i am looking into, but i have to beef up my tranny first...AUTOMAGIC BABY!!

Great kill!

I loved spraying on cars that thought they woud eat me alive. WHen i had a 100 shot, i spun in first into second and half way into second so what out if you up it to 100.

Rob - Yeah, I guess it'd be better not to even spray in first (you're right, it'd save my tires, tranny, & a bit of N20)...but hey, I'm still a nitrous novice (still on my first refill) and just want to have fun with it

Aaron - I have crappy a$$ 18" BF Goodridch Euro T/A's. They're almost worn down (they lasted a VERY LONG time, though) and I'm deciding between Kumho's (supposedly best-bang-for-the-buck) and Bridgestone RE730's (great tire, but I don't know if it justifies an extra $300 per set over the Kumho's ).

Synki - How do you get traction in first gear? I doubt I'll move up to a 100shot. But who knows? hehe Although, it would be pretty cool to be going in second gear, hit the nitrous, and immediately light up the tires at 45 mph

I know you have the Walbro 255High pressure pump....what bypass jetting are you using with the 80-shot????

I'm running WAY too rich with anything under a 100-shot with that damn pump...

Can you believe I'm using the .032 & getting 82psi?!?!? It's true. I dunno...am I lucky? Perhaps I'm unlucky (since it seems my Walbro doesn't push out as much psi on my car as it does on other cars) Which bypass jet are you up to now? Can you go any higher?

Impressive...

Those GS430s are damn fast! That means you're in the 5s 0-60MpH.

I never had traction at all.

At the track on 100 shot & CAI & Y-pipe (auto), i was only able to hit 14.0@100 dur to traction. Its just crazy. Gotta love Nitrous!

Bottle fed cars are a lot quicker than their quarter mile times suggest. There's no way to control the insane wheel spin (esp. in first gear) short of lsd combined with slicks. When the nitrous hits, it's like boom - mad torque - and there go your tires.

I'm just wondering if you have run your car at the strip? It should be in the 13's if you caught up to a GS4/430 and pulled aome more!!!

Nope, I haven't run my car at the track yet. However, like I said, bottle fed cars are quicker than their quarter mile times would suggest. Some autos can only manage 14.0 et's with 100shot...c'mon now, with that amount of power, they should be at least mid 13's!!! With nitrous, it's all about traction. That's why nitrous kicks a$$ in the higher gears where there's traction...and that's why I was able to catch up and pull on the GS430.

You can def prevent spinning. Buy the NOS Nitrous Controller. That has Nitrous delay and it will slowing increase the amount of nitrous over a certain period of time. This will eliminate any spin off the line. I never bought it b/c its a $500 unit.
