hey guys - i have been talking to a few members, debating what wheels to get.. 16 pounds without the tires konig subzero's
or 2k 17" se rims.

the konigs would come out to about 600 with shipping, and the 2k SE rims would be 500.

i'm looking for opinions on build quality and weight for these two wheels, also if anyone has a picture of a 3rd gen with 5th gen wheels, i'd love to see it.

 

james has the konigs on his 3rd gen i think and they look very good, i think the 5th gen rims would look good to, i think rancid90se has those on his car.

 

They look very good on James' car. He's got 225/45 tires on them without any rubbing probs last I heard.... (might want to double check that, heh heh ) It helps though if you get tires without a rim protector (like his Kumhos I think).

 

yeah, i've talked to james quite a bit, and i like the wheels, i just dont want to copy him kinda looking around for opinions on what will be a better wheel, eg: do the konigs have duribility issues? and if they had to be sold, i imagine the konigs would hold more value than a production wheel.

 

I would go with the Konigs. They look pretty good on the max. What size are you looking at that weighs 16 pounds?? I have been looking for a set of light rims.

 

Yep I have the Konigs and like Bman said I'm running 225/45's with no problem. Go with the Kumho's!! BTW, my 17" Konigs weigh 14lbs without the tires.

 

damn you james! i swear my 15"s and the tires must weigh in at a good 40 lbs each. if there's one thing high school physics taught me ... rotational momentum is bad lighter wheels will ride better, go faster and stop quicker.

BTW, the 16 pound one i'm looking at is 17" and comes from whalen wheel and tire. maybe james got lucky with 14 lbs, but their site said 16

 

Yeah, I know the site says 16, but we weighed them time and time again and kept getting 14

 

get the rota subzero... konig does not make any rims, they only resell (in this case the rota subzero). you can get them here:

$550 shipped and a choice of 5 colors.

james- why don't i trade you my stockers for your konigs. i know you want the sweet look of salt chipped aluminum

 

Yep, Rota's, Konig's, Spoon's, Evo's and even some Racing Harts (I'm almost convinced the Racing Hart variety are the exact same wheel as the SubZero's....topped off by the fact they weigh exactly the same) are all the exact same wheel. I dont know if all the brands share all the same wheel's but at least a couple of them do. My brother has Rota Slipstreams, and we have the exact same manufacturer info and engravings on the back of our wheels...

Rota Slipstreams = Spoon SW388's = Evo Regamaster's = probably more brands

Rota SubZero's = Konig Subzero's = I'm almost positive the Racing Harts (not sure of the name)= probably more brands


After I figured that out I wished I would have gotten in on that GD for 17" SubZero's I was looking at, but it was too late and WhalenTire was the next cheapest I could find.

It's amazing how many exact matching wheels there are out there sold under like 15 different brand names with hundreds of dollars difference in cost.

group deal... what was the price? i want wheels, but can't break the bank with some lightweight racer wheels, so the subzeros are great for me. Anyone interested in starting a group deal for some Rota Subzeros? james, i know you want another set

My brother got his Rota's on a Group Buy from them. They can probably help you out...that's where I was gonna do mine through.

 

oops- forgot to ask for information on any company selling Rota/konig/spoon/whatever Subzeros for less than $135 (whalen's price) per wheel. i am determined to put something on my car that will look better than stockers.

 

Go look on the inside of the Rotas. Do they say Russia? If not, they aren't the same wheel(which they aren't)

 

No, they dont say Russia, and I dont think the Spoons do either...

 

hmmm... okay, well i was looking on wheelmax.com and found a few more konigs that i like. they're around $1000 with tires. i just have a bad imagination and cant picture what they would look like on a 3rd gen.

had em,chrischeezer has the pic on his webpage for my sig...but it was too big to use..i sold em to jose for $400 with 6 tires..lol

I'm still convinced they're the same wheel, whether or not they're all made by Spoon in Russia is beside the point.

 

I know of a pretty sweet Super Black Max, that has. Hmmmm...Sort of 17" SE looking wheels. But they are not!
