Changing climate control default setting

Anyone know a way to change the default climate control setting on startup from "outside air" to "re-circulate air"?

Each & every time I start my 2002 GLE, the C.C. setting for re-circulate vs outside air changes from my preferrence of re-circulate. Because I'm primarily a city driver, I end up with a car full of carbon monoxide exhaust gas before realizing I must toggle the setting to re-circulate. Then I have to open the windows to expel the exhaust, often in the rain lately. Sounds trivial I'm sure, but as a 1st time climate control user, I'm used to setting this option on a manual control & never having to change it. Now that I've spent the extra $$ for C.C., I expect the same convienience.

Any suggestions, other than move to the country?

I just wish that the system would start up with the settings I last dialed in . . . seems to work ok for temps and Econ/Auto and Fan, but not for "re-circulate air". I agree that this is extremely annoying.

I think this was intentional. The manual does say that normal operation is fresh air and that running too long in recirculate can (and sometimes does) fog your windows. So it's probably this way by design.

I usually switch it to recirculate when in trafficas well.
