Newbie Question: Buying 96 GLE, Any Common Problems?

Hi all. I'm likely buying a 1996 GLE with 72,000 miles this weekend. I'm not sure what has been replaced (if anything) on the car. What are common problems to the 96 GLE? Anything that I should do right away?

Thanks!!

(it's a 1996, not a 1997 as originally stated)

Get it checked out by a mechanic before buying and make sure the 60k mile maintenance was done. Other than that the car should last you a while without any problems.

What is done at the 60K mile maintenance? How much does a dealer charge? I'm having the car bought for me at a dealer auction so I won't know too much about past history.

I owned a 97 GLE and the caontainer for the windshield wiper fluid leaked at the point where the neck met with the larger body part. It was fixed under warranty and never had anything else go wrong. It was a great car.

The 60k service is a change of:
oil
oil filter
fuel filter
air filter
spark plugs

Inspect:
belts
brakes
anything else you can

You can do this service yourself. Get a Hayne's Manual (get it anyway, even if you dont do your own work), it will explain everyhting.

I own a 97 GLE with 49k miles on it...I have had no problems with the car...can't really talk about 60k maintenance because it hasn't been necessary yet ...but it's a great car!

my main problem with a maxima is i drive too fast.
Other than that the engine is bullet-proof. I hope you trust whoever is buying this for you. Dealers can be ruthless.
Good luck

I definitely agree with that...although i have slowed it down a bit now...just went to court today for my first speeding ticket...i'm only 16 too ...oh well, just gotta keep the speed down for a little bit...having a lead foot doesn't help...especially when you have an awesome car that loves to be pushed
