I'm in the same situation as you - A couple of months ago the dealer had the car I was looking for, offered me below invoice before the rebate, and I took it. I love the car, but I am without the HLSD, which sounds like would be very helpful on the icy streets. I called Nissan and was told that the factory HLSD cannot be installed after purchase, but I am not giving up on the idea. I have read about people installing VLSD trannys from slavage yards in cars with open diffs, and I have looked into the Quaife option as well. But at $1500 plus install, it seems cost prohibitive. Does $800 for install sound about right? Also I was thinking of waiting until 36000 miles so that I don't give Nissan a reason to avoid tranny work if the 6 speed proves to be a problem. Sorry so long, and I would really appreciate any advice or ideas. Thanks.

Untill people start wrecking 02 Maximas the HLSD will be rare and ultra expensive. New Nissan parts would cost a fortune and I might guess there is a different trans casing.
If someone wants to trade pictures of a 02 trans w/o HLSD I will take pictures of mine with HLSD. The only way to tell not is the pedals which is suspect.
