more VLSD tranny problems

hey guys/gals, most of you probably arent familiar with my tranny saga, but it continues... i was able to find a vlsd tranny with 56k on it its from a 97 I30, it is definately the limited slip because the the drivers side half shalft seal is huge. i got it with a lifetime warranty for parts and labor. i sourced out a set of i30 axles through beck arnley who i later found out is basically DANA which has a plant in CT (doh) anyways, i put it all in myself i properly lubed the seals and everything and i stuck the axles in and filled it with redline and i drove it and it leaked. i also did exhaust suspension and a short shifter so i was really bumbed when i realized the tranny is still leaking. so i take the car to work, i put it on the lift and i change the drivers side halfshaft seal. lubed it and it STILL LEAKS. the only thing i can think of is that when i put the passenger side halfshaft in i had to use the screws in the bearing bracket to pull the half shaft in. i thought that maybe the passenger side is keeping the drivers side from fully going in. the leak isnt as sever with the new seal but its still there. the only thing im missing is the copper(bronze?) dust cap for the drivers side cv which i ordered along with a new seal from the infinity dealer. the bearing looks good has no play and no shavings or any sort of metal came out of my fluid. should i try putting heavier fluid in ? does the vlsd use heavier fluid? should i stick to synthetic now that i used the redline? the drivers side cv doesnt seem to want to go in all the way , i dont want to hammer it in because i dont want to damage anything , but it just doesnt look like its all the way in. if anyone can help id be very thank full. pete

im about to go try again, im going to try pulling the passenger side and putting in the drivers side to see if i can get it to clip in all the way. then im going to put in the passenger side and see if theres a difference. the only fluid that was rated for limited slip usage was mobil 1, this is getting mad expensive. if anyone can help please let me know

my 93 se has a VLSD and when i had my axles changed they had to hammer the left side axle in. i think there is a c clip of some sort on the end of the axle that goes into a slot inside the tranny??

yes but theres something to be said for all the frustration involved and all the work ive put into the car. for all the time and money ive spent on my back in my garage that still reaks of gl-4 i think its worth just a little bit more then the average car, to me anyways

daren, i think your right im going to try tonight , we'll see what happens, ill be checking back periodically to see if anyone else has ideas

i did both, make sure u also get new seals and make sure u also get the dustcap that sits on the axle shaft. this dustcap was imperitive in stopping my leak , it kept the axle from moving in and out of the transmission. Also use www.raxles.com and ask for a maxima locking diff axle not an infinity one, there were differences between the two, when i first did the swap i bought an infinity one through napa and it still leaked so i called up raxles and had them send me one for a 5spd maxima with a locking diff. before i got a chance to put it in i ended up snapping the drivers side one right in the middle of the shaft. boy was that interesting i thought i blew the tranny again. anyways get the "maxima locking diff one" good luck if u have any questions shoot me a mail at peej410@yahoo.com
