Need help from tranny/clutch pro's

I have a question about my clutch/tranny. When my car is cold and I want to take off fast.Exp the light changes, I put it in gear and make a smooth but fast movement of the gas to clutch (I dont launch it at 1000rpm and then let go of the clutch) Its a nice smooth 500rpm let go cluch and press gas type of thing but very fast. The whole dashboard and the car starts to shake for the first 500rpms and then stops when the engine is at like 1000rpm. It only happens when the car is cold. If its a smooth take off then its good. It only happens when the car is relatively cold and I take off fast. If I launch it at like 1000 and let go of the clutch its good. I did the best I could to explain but its very hard. Please help. BTW the tranny is very smooth and it doesnt grind at that moment.

You're experiencing clutch chatter..........

Do you have an aftermarket clutch??? If so that vibration you're feeling is clutch chatter. I dont know how to eliminate it so it never comes back. The only thing you can do is change the way you launch. Use more rpm when leaving a stand still, try 1500 or 2000 rpm.
Thats my best advice, hopefully more 5 speeders will chime in.

To my best knowledge I have an ariginal clutch with like 116K miles on it. This started happening around a month ago.

Engaging the clutch at 500 rpm's will cause you to flirt with stalling. The car wants to idle at 650ish, and you're dragging it down very quickly when you re-engage the clutch.

I don't think its anything abnormal, I'd just keep the RPM's a little higher when you get going.

Yes - rev it up some more. I take off pretty hard and I have 98,000 miles on my original clutch. Still chirps 2nd pretty easily too.

I dont think the low engine speed is his problem...........

Even when you flirt with the engine stalling there's no reason why his dashboard and car should start vibrating. I sometimes creep away from a stop light with very little throttle and the rpm's sometimes go as low as 500 and it doesn't vibrate and shake the whole car. I still believe the problem lies in the transmission or the engine mounts. I do agree that applying a little more throttle is the best way to leave the line anyhow, but this violent shaking of the dashboard and car doesn't seem like it would be caused by low rpm operation alone. There's another culprit here, I think this is what 190hpKilla is complaining about.

:::190hpKilla::: How violent is the shaking of the dashboard and tranny??? Please give us some more info.

take a nut or a bunch of quarters and put them in the little factory holder thingy under the stereo then try it. if they jump around i bet your getting wheel hop. if they dont and you feel it more in the pedals and in the shifter i bet you have bad mounts. this is the only way i can think to diagnose this without sitting in the car. i dont know where yer from but ill be at the pike this weekend so if you want me to check it out maybe we can diagnose it

hmmm

there are a lot of possibles.. how hard do you drive the car? track use at all? high rpm clutch drops? also sounds like a combo, you might have a loose/broken motor mount(arent they liquid filled?) and a case of the squeaks behind the dash. kinda sounds like a warped flywheel. any boby else drive your max besides you?

No I dont drive hard, no high rpm drop clutch, and so on. Its not wheel hop.

My mistake!!!! I dont launch at 500 its 650.

It doesnt happen if I pull out normally. Only if I do it instantly but not revving hard. Actually letting go of the cluch and pressing gas. When I rev to like 1000+ its fine. I dont think its engine mounts cause it only happens when the car is cold. and not every time.

Once again the tranny feels smooth cause at that time my hand is on the shifter.

Exp!!!!! Im day dreaming and the light turns green. I push the clutch in, put it in gear and let go of the clutch, quater way from fully realising it I press the gas.(but its very fat) Before it was a nice and smooth take off without riding the clutch. THIS IS NOT EVERYDAY OR TIME! Thank you for your imput. Once again the trannt feels smooth cause at that time my hand is on the shifter.

It sounds like clutch chatter. Rev a little higher, and pull away stronger, so the car doesn't bog any. I get the same thing when my [aftermarket] clutch is cold. And I get it when it's warm if I don't give it enough gas. I only get this chatter on start-up, in 1st gear. Good luck.

This happens to me too. I think because the clutch is cold, it does not want to clamp. But after i drive the car for a while it the chatter goes away.

All right VAl, it must be that you are not launching properly. I remeber driving your car and the clutch felt good to me.
