what aftermarket alarms do you guys own?

Well, I just read the other post about the Maxima being a highly stolen car in the east coast. In fact, I believe the Maxima's are in the top 5 position in NY City. There are just so many of them and the demand for parts is insane.
Nevertheless, I did a search on the forum and did not get much info about what type of alarm is good--and their value? If anyone is in the New York City area and can recommend a good alarm place --and what alarm is recommended, I would greatly appreciate that. I have recently been parking my car on the street and it seems that a club and my factory alarm is not enough.
DOes the 4th generation Max's have a cut-off preventing theives from starting the car? I would like to have an alarm that does that--again, any comments or recommdations are welcomed.
thank you

Quite a few people like the Viper 550 (and rightfully so). I myself am getting a Crimestopper 2006. Its range is 2000+ feet with a pager function so you know if someone is trying to break into your car. Its also got an LCD remote with plenty of cool features

Viper series alarms are available most places while Crimestoppers are harder to come by. Best bet is to take a look on ebay for those.

Viper 800 here. I highly recommend DEI products. Owned 5 alarms by DEI and loved everyone of them.

I currently have the factory remote setup, but I was wondering with the viper800, can you still use the factory remote or do you now need a separate remote (making that two) in order to get into the car? I was also wondering--the cost of the 800 model? does this also come with a cutoff switch?

thank you

I have a DEI Python 3000 with windows, trunk, valet and domelight supervision. The factory alarm just doesn't do it for me.

Re: Re: Re: what aftermarket alarms do you guys own?

how much did it cost you? I am somewhat new to the area of alarms and sensors--so if someone were to sit on your car or break a window (specially the little one in the back door)--would your alarm go off? and if they tried to start the car--would they be able to do it?
My neighborhood is just getting baddd. I need to upgrade after all these years to a "better" alarm--
thanks.

Mine was installed so that both the factory and the Viper work simultaneously. I only use the Viper remote.

thanks for the info

hey, I appreciate you getting back to my questions, Ravq.
That is cool, so they can set everything to one remote. I assume then the usual factory remote is then useless? great!!
how much did this cost you?
thank you.

The factory remote is not in fact useless. It will still work but only to control the factory alarm. As for the price, I had a remote start, motion sensor and a couple of window modules put in at the same time so it ran me about $500 total.

not that much

sounds like you got quite the setup there.
btw, are you in the NY area? where did you get your alarm set up? (and cost if you can share that with me). I think I will need just the alarm to scream if the glass or if some ******* sits on the car and that it is a pain for them the start the car--so a cutoff would be nice and ideal...but I wouldn't need the remote starter...
let me know where you got this...and you still use the factory remote or a new one from this setup?
thanks--
Brian

the Python cost me $220 installed at a local shop. That was befor ei knew how to di alarms. The remote starter was $50 at dealer cost from my new job, the sirens ran $15 each, fail safe was $10. Installation all done by me.

All i have is a simple two button clicker, button one arms/dis-arms/panic alarm, button two pops trunk and or silent arm/disarm, both together remote starts/shuts down.

i got this funny alarm...doesn't have a special name...costed me like 150....the good thing about it is that it has a kill switch and can roll up or down all 4 windows when you press button once...like them lexus cars or something...like if you press up once, the window goes all the way up...also, if you put car in neutral or park and all windows are down, they will all go up

i remember i wanted the sunroof or moonroof..(not sure what is what) to close when alarm went on too but he didn't know how to do that....

You want a glass break sensor. They are cheap and it's just a little microphone that can be installed behind an empty "button" in your dash. It only responds to a certain frequency range (including any debris - specifically acorns - that fall on your windsheild. I think that would cover you and is an add on to most any alarm I would imagine. I paid about $200 for everything my alarm came with but that was because I was working at a detail/alarm shop at the time. I highly recommend DEI, they just absolutely rock.

dei stuff

thank you for the info--much appreciated.
Yes, my folks had a 87 legend (well that was awhile back) that had a dei alarm--and harsh rain or acorns would set it off. I did not know the extent of that DEI alarm. But I do know that their stuff is excellent@!! So I too am looking for one if at all possible.
I believe the Nissan Automate (from the dealer) is made by DEI also.
I think all that stuff would most likely suffice me.
just a weird question--what is the difference between the automate Nissan add on alarm from the dealer versus a straight factory alarm?
is there anything different--like a cutoff?

I would HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the multilock. IT locks the gear shift in automatic cars. It is almost impossible to cut . The only way to cut it is with a special saw from Japan and that would take in upwards of 4 hours and + they would have to know where to get the blades. Once installed it can not be un-installed and the thief cant take the car out of park.
I dont sell it im just a fan. Cost me about $200 to install.AS of Recent, Lots of dealers are putting these in as dealer installed options .

your knowledge

Mr. Blank,
thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. That is very interesting--so a multilock is only about $200--and once installed--that is it? SO pretty much they have to flatbed your car out if they want it that badly?
I guess I would need a better alarm than the little stocker and also the multilock.
I see that gear locker thingy--(there is only one kind right?) in a lot of Honda Accords around here. I guess they know they have a car that people want--for parts.
where did you get yours installed? is there a special place or this needs to be go back to the Nissan Dealer?
thank you.

Re: mechanic

Brooklyn? hmm--that is very close to me. I live in Queens. Would you recommend him and his work? In fact, I need a new mechanic. I am sick of going to the dealer. Good thing is that my car haven't really needed much work done thus far (knock on wood). I am sure that a dealership will charge probably an arm and leg for it.
how is his overall work with Nissan cars? I will be more than happy to see him if he is accepting new customers.

Of course I would recommend him thats why hes still my mechanic. He mostly works on maximas. When you see his max your jaw will definitely drop, It has everything. But yeah wat I like about him is that his GARAGE/drop is in the back of his house so if at 11pm something goes wrong im calling him up and hes probably in there anyway working on cars. Some of his prices are a lil too high but then again that includes unlim service warranty. And any light he puts in for you he will replace for you free of charge if it ever blows.
If you want his number or u wanna go by there sometime with me. Id be happy to take you.
