my engine is really quiet..too quiet

ok about 2 weeks ago i installed intake on my 97 max...bout 4 days laytr my AUTO tranny died so i took off intake and my car went to dealer for replacement of tranny...when i got my car back it drove better but it was more quiet den before i put the intake on...anyone know y? i think my tranny has been messed up for a while but ion think that would make my engine louder.

is the idle the same rpm as it was before?

Maybe because the tranny was dying the engine had to push harder and therefore required more air. . . I am guessing this is completely wrong, but it is a guess. Does it sound anything the same as it did before, or is the tone in general completely different?
