Who had their clear corners stolen or are afraid it might happen? fear no longer!...

Okay, don't know if anyone has thought of this, or what this washer method is... but since i just got some diamond cut clears and 190hpKilla had his stolen, i am afraid mine will meet the same fate..

Well, here is the idea.... The sidemarker, smaller piece of the clear corners is held in by NOTHING. I can pick it open with my finger, cut the wires or unplug them, take out the little screw securing the big, turn signal piece, cut or unplug those wires and bam, someone can walk away with your clear corners in 2 minutes.

Here is what I did:

take out the little side marker piece, there is a bolt that clips into the bumper on the back, once the small piece is off, the clears basically are off as well.. I took out that bolt, and put a longer bolt in it's place. Then took out the plastic socket thing that the original clip goes into (it is also included in the hardware with new lights) and just put the bolt right through that hole. Take off the underbody cover, it's like 3 screws... and reach under into the bumper and screw a nut on the end of the bolt from the back...
Tighten it up well.. then just put the underbody cover back on and you're done.

You can no longer simply PRY out the sidemarker piece with your finger or a screw driver. Without getting off the side marker piece, you can not get off the big piece.. which means when someone is trying to steal them, expecting them to just pry open, he will not waste his time taking off the underbody and stuff, even if he figures out how it is held in place.

again, i don't know if this is the other method people talk about. I did this and I think it's by far the quickest, best way to secure the lenses into the bumper to prevent them from theft.

I had mine screwed in, but I went back to just snapping them on the bumper. I'd rather buy a new $35 set of clears than have someone destroy my bumper and clears trying to steal them.

Question? now that area that the bolt goes through, in the bumper, that piece is just plastic right? Or i think it is if i remember correctly... the idiot who stole my first set of diamonds didn't have much of a clue what he was doing an stick a screwdriver in the rear- side, i know this cause he tore the paint up good... if it is secure and he still pull's it hard wont't it break the plastic bumper piece?

I did not know that.

I still did this and leaving it like this, it's more secure and they are not loose.

I am not sure if it's plastic or not... you may be right.. but it's still makes it a lot harder to pull them out... I am just hoping that if someone is going to attempt to steal them from my car they will stop trying after they see they are not coming out easy. I'll probably silicone everything around the lens shut too, so you won't be able to put a screw driver in there to pry them out.
