I can't believe how fast they took to test that car, and it took them forever to even test the Maxima! Damn freaks...

Anyways they got 14.0! Holy crap, well I guess the 6spd max better watch out, it looks like comp. It's on www.caranddriver.com

I searched the site and found the March issue that said a 0-60 in the low-6-second range. Even if it had a 6.0 0-60, it would not run 14.0. Send us a direct link because I obviously am not looking in the right place.

It was orginally posted there....the link is in that post.

If a Altima can do low 14s and a 6spd Max, the CL-S should as well.

I didn't see anything about 14.0 in the article, just 0-60 in 6.0. I don't doubt that it can do 14 flat, but I'd rather take the word of people who get timeslips than that of a magazine.

Nothing mentioned 14.0 1/4mile time

They did however estimated 0-60 times or 6.4seconds on that FIRSTDRIVE
In another Issue, they tested the G35 AUTOMATIC and estimated 0-60 times or 6.5 seconds. I GUESS THE MANUAL G35 WILL BE LIGHT SPEED FASTER THAN THE CLS 6SPEED YAY!!

Anyways, Car and Driver never got 14.0 seconds clean and simple.

Ditto... from the article it says:

The six-speed Type-S is 60 pounds lighter than the automatic version, and that, plus the greater efficiency of a manual, should add up to about a half-second at the drag strip, according to Acura. If true, that would mean a 0-to-60 time in the low-six-second range. Which would put it right in there with the BMW 330Ci, the perennial king of this class—for about $4000 less.
It's all about "should's & would's". It's like me believing SCC's numbers.

I agree totally. Nowhere in that article does it say 1/4 mile in 14.0 secs flat. According to HONDA (who makes the car) "...should add up to about a half-second at the drag strip."

Also...here are some 14 sec cars and their 0-60 times:
1998 M3, 14.0 and 0-60 in 5.5
Bullitt Mustang, 14.1 and 0-60 in 5.6
1999 Camaro SS, 13.9 and 0-60 in 5.3

I know 0-60 is not a direct correlation to 1/4 mile times...but you get the idea.

What is the current 1/4 mile time for the auto...Edmunds says 15.01 and C&D says 14.7. So based on HONDA's calculations...the new 6 speed should be around a 14.2/14.6 sec car. That would tell me we have a dam close race. I really do like the CL and I think mating it with a 6-speed was the best thing they could have done for that car.

Now lets go easy with people starting rumors..."some guy said it runs 13.5's...I heard it, honest". Until we start seeing some time slips...lets just be happy that it is available and the Max has a very formable opponent

Good times to come!!

Why is this post in the 5th gen forum?
Please move it to honduh.org or slowcars.com. If not that, please move it to off-topic.
This is a Maxima forum. We're happy you got the new car, but we don't care to hear about it, especially since you didn't even get the 6-speed. Sheesh.

If C&D published a 14.0 1/4 for the CL-S 6-speed, then somebody get that driver to drive every other car they test!

If anybody cares to post a link to something that actually shows C&D's 14.0, that would be great. Based on previous times that C&D has published, one would have to assume that a 14.0 time would suggest that a race-sensitive driver would push that down another 3-tenths. So, I'll look forward to those first 6-speed CL-S drivers running 13.7's.

Russ, do you still own a Max? Then how do you have time for a Max forum when the Honda rice guys have so much to talk about? Not saying a 14.0 is impossible...just talk about it at hondaboys.com.

Thanks. Yeah..Rx7forum.com has taken me over. There is a sh!tload of info to search thru regarding the rx7. But, I will try to make it back here more. I am looking at some exhaust mods for my max (that nobody offers!). BTW, the more I learn about the turbocharged engines, the more a big @ss turbocharger on my 3.5 liter sounds like a good idea (and a helluva lota work)! I hope someone does it soon!

Remeber that CAr and Driver pritns "corrected" times which often differ from the real world. I wonder if the CL-S had headers on it like the last type S had when tested

If it did get 14.0 flat I would have to say I am very suprised considering the weight, HP and TQ on the car.

This post is OT:
That guy is full of BS because Car & Driver waits a while to put its newest articles online. If they put their articles up instantly, why would anyone pay for the magazine???

Tanmann, you rock. I thought, how stupid of me, I accidentally fudged up and logged on to a Honda site. I really thought this was maxima.org(a site for Maxima fanatics).

C'mon guys,

can you guys relax a little?

I know that the 6-Speed CL-S has nothing to do with the Maxima, but like Russ said, it IS a major competitor to the Maxima. It's not like Russ, or for that matter anyone else, posts non Maxima related stuff everyday. Even though this is a Maxima forum, I actually want someone to post "big" news about other cars once in a while. We are all automobile enthusiasts, right? So why can't we have an intelligent technical discussion about other cars once in a while?
Russ may have a CL-S now, but he is the founder of 5thgenmaximas.com after all. I'd like to see some of you put in that much dedication to the Maximas. Russ has every right to post in this forum, even though it may not be 100% about Maximas. If an intelligent discussion about other cars is not permissible on this board, then I'd say you guys are not enjoying automobiles to the fullest extent.

I highly doubt a CL-S 6spd will do 14.0 flat.

The 2k2 Max 6spd has only a tiny bit less horsepower, a ton more torque, and 250lb less weight and runs 14.3s stock. Unless Acura is able to get significantly more power to the ground with their manual tranny (it's possible, Honda's tend to be quite good in this department compared to Nissan), a 14.0 time would defy the laws of physics IMHO.

Agreed! if a low 6 sec 0-60 car can run a 14.0 flat ET then it would almost have to be turbo with some serious midrange boost. As TellschMax02 details, 14 second cars usually run low 5 0-60 times, not mid 6s.

Hey Steve!! I finally gave in and bought a 2K2 Max!! This thing's the bomb, bro!!

[if Russ had my 94]
My 94 is going to hit 12s with an intake and exhaust including a 2k muffler.

I know because I say it is so.....there are plenty of magazines that show modified, normally aspirated VGs doing 12s all the time.....

You don't own a cl-s 6 speed. It isn't 3 months yet. Get one in 3 months and then talk noise ok?

Don't forget to get that gun and shoot me....
Oh wait... I'm in texas too.

Not that i'm taking sides here or anything, but what's wrong with posting some info on the new CL-S?

I mean, when someone posts info on some other car that may be a maxima contender no one bashes that post (It may end up in OT but nevertheless).

Would this mean if i posted info on the upcoming VW V8 sedan i'll get the same type of bashing?
