Passed Smog Check with Y, c/b

My 1995 Maxima SE has 189,000 miles on it, now, not to mention the Cattman Y-pipe, GReddy cat-back exhaust system, and JWT ECU/NCM. As a resident of Memphis, TN, my car must pass a smog check every year before I can renew my auto tag. Last year, the car passed the smog check with room to spare, but I did not have the Y-pipe nor the ECU installed at that time. I was a little nervous as I approached the inspection station last week, even though the car does not smoke, drip, nor leak. I passed. Exhaust gases were not quite as "clean" as they were last year, but still *well under* test limits. I was very relieved, to say the least.

Maybe it's time to install that R/T cat I've been thinkin' about...

I love to drive that car! I got it in December of 1994, when I was living in San Antonio, Texas. Anytime I wanted to take a ride, I was looking at a couple hundred miles or so. It's still my daily driver, and I take little trips with it on the weekends, too. Needless to say, I don't drive my 2000 Infiniti I30t very often. I'm thinking of trading-in the I30t for something else... Don't know what, though.

actually i have a POP, y pipe, and muffler - but the b pipe is stock, does this help emissions since it doesnt flow as free as if i took out the resonator? and the muffler? do these do anything to emissions levels- i have no clue guys

The exhaust gas coming out of our stock engines goes through a y-pipe that has pre-catalytic converters for each bank. They scrub emissions all the time, but are there mostly to assist the main cat until it has a chance to heat up to its nominal operating temp. Once the main cat lights up, it does most of the scrubbing. The cat-back systems do not really do anything to lessen emissions, stock or otherwise. The muffler is in-line to reduce noise. Period.

When I put in the CAI, Y-pipe, and the cat-back system, I really uncorked the engine. And it is LOUD under WOT. I guess the only way it could be louder is if I switched to a 3" system. I'm not sure why the emissions on my car went up over last year. The year before I had almost no measurable emissions. Last year, The measurements were higher. This year, they were higher again, but less than 50% of the ceiling. Not bad for a car with 190,000+ miles on it...
