do you mean that you want to be able to hook up a dvd player and play movies on the navi screen? If so I would love to hear if it is possible.

Russ mentioned that the Acura-TL.com members were modding their DVD systems to accept video input. I did a search on their site & found plans & schematics. The quesito is: who's gonna be the BETA TESTER?

I received an email about needing some kind of schematic diagram for the wirinfg from Nissan. If some pointy head can get it, it can be done for sure. Come on guys with Navi.. spread the word !! Oh by the way, my friend has an Acura type -s and he took it to San Francisco, and it wouldnt keep up after 70 mph. Same with my buddy with the RL. I hit 120 mph and my arrow was tracking nicely !!

DVD input into Navi

I know this thread is old, but wanted to see if the interest is still out there. THis is not an attempt to Run DVD's in the Navi. Just using the Navi screen and sound connections for input of signal into the Navi from an external portable DVD player.

There are two capped holes on the left side of the unit (below the navi buttons).

It seems to me the ideal approach would be to have the inputs there (1 for video, 1 for audio). When the system detects signal it accepts input from there. TOS fiber input is probably not realistic but even a 3 conductor miniature for video (component) would be cool. Audi handled through either a coax plug (also probably not realistic) or standard stereo audio miniature piped into Bose audio (same place as the Navi)..
Has anyone attempted this? Are there any A/V shops out there that have been successfull on a 2K2?

I've seen some of the TL posts on their site and they talk a lot about needing a RGB component for conversion but I don't know enough about this to talk too intelligently on it.

Any A/V shop folks out there know about this.

Don't know what kind of LCD unit does Maxima have but most of the LCD unit will have somewhat propieratory(sp?) input. It will have driver to create the signals, etc. Most likely it will be RGB input but somewhat more convoluted. RGB input means basically you will have 3 different signals (red, green, blue) and sync information signals. So basically what you would need once you have schematics is getting an NTSC/PAL->RGB conveter so you can use the NTSC/PAL signals into apporpirate RGB signals.

I wanna see this figured out too. I have a friend who has done it to his bmw 330i, he also "jacked in" to the stock radio buttons/controls and is using that to control his carpc. If/when I get a maxima, it will most likely be the 2k2 as long as the navi screen can be "hacked". I"m sure it can be done, if BMW and Acura navi's allow it, then surely Nissan Max's will allow it. ANyway, keep the hope alive.

That's exactly what I'm hoping for too. Why did Nissan have to use CD-Rom based? Acura, and even the new Infiniti's all use DVD. But enough crying...I want the Nav too, if you can add a PS2 to it. (Especially since they're only $199 now)

Right on.. I just want to get my CarPC out of this Intrepid and into a better car. I was hoping for an AUdi S4 but the price is just way out of my range, the 2k2 Maxima is more reasonable, and a bit more reliable. If only that Navi can truly be hacked a bit. I'd be in car heaven. I could sell my existing 7" widescreen and just use the stock navi and have a bit more stealthy/stock install

Cheers..

I read the thread a while back on how to hook it up to the CL. You gotta buy a seperate DVD player and a get a load of radio shack stuff. It's a pretty technical mod which includes messing with the insides (sodering, splciing etc.) of the RGB converter. Didn't I see someone here have flat screens built into their sunvisors?
