Pics of my new 2K2 w/ Navi!
I got my new Max at last. I sold my Y2K SE to a girl at work. I ended up spending the extra $$ and got Navi, Majestic Blue with Frost leather. I ended up paying $27,550. When you have a Max with a female voice giving you directions, you have to fall in love.

In all seriousness, the voice kinda bugs after a while, especially when you have your radio cranked up and the volume automatically lowers so the Navi can give you her next direction.

I'm not sure the specifics, but I know it has to be hooked into the ECU and climate control systems. It certainly knows your speed, and controls your A/C too. Sounds like its just not worth the money to try to install it after the fact.

Too bad you can't select a voice...I'd kinda like to hear Marilyn Monroe's voice commanding the road. You know, you can turn the voice prompts off if you don't want them. Same with the beep when you touch the screen. Just go into the "settings" menu.
Also, have you figured out that if you have the screen split with map and audio, and you want to see full map, you just touch the screen anywhere and the HVAC display goes away until you adjust the HVAC with the controls, again? Pretty neat. And then, if you haven't read this yet, if you touch the screen with full map again, you get neat little buttons that ask questions such as "where am I" and it will give you the exact street you're on, the one you just left, and the next one you will come to. Every day I learn more and more because, let's face it, who has time to read the manual!
You also got a great deal...that's got to be because the 03's are rolling in.
And although the Nav was pricey...I'm so glad I got it; I really depend on it a lot.
About adding it to the car??? I don't think you'd want to undertake that and I doubt you'd find a dealer that would. My neighbor works at the plant here in Smyrna and he told me just the other day that the launch of the 04 has now been pushed off to March because of the complexities of setting up the line for and training workers to install the Nav. Also, the 04 will integrate the on-Star system with the Nav, so it will make it even more complex. He says the wiring is extensive that supports the system. I can believe it.

By the way, if the voice annoyes you, you can turn it off, and just go with the visual directions....This Navi on the Maxima, has lot of functions, I havent even begun to use. It's definately worth it. A lot of people say it's useless , only because they dont have it !
