Does anyone actually like there Kumhos?
Does anyone actually like there Kumhos?
I thought these tires were pretty good from what I have read. So I bought them and thus far I am a very dissapointed, my stock potenzas got me off the line a lot quicker especialy in sub 50 degree weather. After peeling out a couple of times these tires are allready showing signs of wearing out.
So does anyone actually like ther Kumho's? In the past I tried Yokahama A520's and these tires stuck to the ground! I also had a set of sumhitomo tires and they were pretty good too.
The Kumho's handle corners a lot better then the oem tires do but off the line traction is horrible!

Is the weather cold where you live? Kumhos are summer tires, which means the compound will be hard and therefore suck in sub-45ish degree weather. The trade off is (generally) better warm-weather performance compared to an all-season tire.
All-season, summer, etc...those tire category designations really do mean something!

I noticed that in 60 degree weather they stick almost as good as my stock tires in acceleration, it 20-50F weather they are horrible. Maybe when it get's in the 70-90 degree range I will like them. I can tell you this though, they are horrible in snow, ha, I know.. summer tires

So check them out, they are within $20 price range per tire of your Kumhos I think, and I know they come in 245/40r18 (ZR rated) because I was looking at them myself for when I plus size.
I know a couple C5 Corvette owners that have ran them.. they have a lot less grip than other tires, this is very obivous when you dealing with 300+ rwhp. The Kumhos and sumhitomo both are like this, but Nittos seem the best among the Discount tire brands... All of them are roughtly half the cost of stock spec tires.
I was reading a car feature in Turbo mag I believe. They were reviewing a Porsche AWD Carrera w/ either a SC or turbo system. They mentioned that the car had some newly purchased Kumho 712s on it. During the article, they were inpressed with the tire in general. They did mention ultimate grip was not up to the standards of the other tires costing 2x-3x the price. But they were impressed w/ the tire anyway. Especially for the cost of admission on these tires.
Which Nitto tires are you referring to? All of them or a specific model? I'd like to take a look at them

I run the Kumhos and I used to have the Firstone SZ50s. The SZ50s had better grip but the Kumhos were right up there. Rain performance was about the same or slighlty better w/ the SZ50s. These Firestones are $180 per tire vs the $105 per tire for the Kumhos. (235-45-17)
I'll take a look at the 555s. Thanks.

let's stick to the same price range and basic construction:

If you have any questions about why you should NOT run 235/45R17 tires on 7"-wide rims, check out the following thread:

PS: For those considering going with Kumho 712s in 225/45R17 to stay in spec, keep an eye on the load rating. The Kumho 712s in 225/45R17 have a load rating of 91 while the OEM Potenza RE-92s in 225/50R17 have a load rating of 93. Generally speaking, it's NOT a good idea to run tires with a load rating lower than that of the OEM tires. (For those who are interested, the Nitto 450s in 225/50R17 have a load rating of 94.)
C'est la vie!
