Certain material brake pads squeel more than others. Also, there are shims that are included stock. Sometimes shops like to chuck those out when they put in new pads instead of taking them off the old pads and cleaning them up. Also, many use anti-brake squeel compound.

I have carbon kevlar Porterfield R4S pads and used CRC BrakeDiscQuiet. Nary a peep out of these.

Do you replace the pads yourself and if so, what brand?

My brakes squeal like crazy too. I changed pads, rotors, calipers. Still they squealed. I tried 7 different "anit-squeal" agents, brake cleaners etc. Not a single one worked consistently for me and still my brakes drive me crazy. I am interested to see if a solution exists.
