A new worthy opponent at the track for the 2k2 Max's

Here

The new PT Cruiser, Turbo I-4 with 215HP and 245lb.ft of TQ. All in a sub-3200lb. body.

What do you guys think of it performance-wise? (I never liked the styling myself)

245 ft/lb of Torque?!?!?!

...that's a TON of power from the 2.4L! More than my stock 217...

Hey, I don't care if it's a threat, just as long as they do something about those gawd-awful black plastic bumpers! Paint'em or something, DaimlerChrysler!

LOL!

But seriously, performance-wise it's pretty impressive. Especially that torque.. and from an I4 at that.

Then again, if we could put Turbo's in our VQ's we'd go past the 300 mark ourselves

Don't be so quick to bag on Chrysler. I'm VERY happy with my Jeep. I have a 1999 Grand Cherokee and it will hold its own against my 2K2 Maxima. Take that V-8 for spin and tell me "its just a Chrysler". Of course, I have to agree, the P/T cruiser is a POS.

Well, maybe they improved the quality of the jeeps, but my parents 94 Jeep Cherokee is god awful. It sounds terrible when they fire it up and smells worse. Not to mention the drivers seat actually came off the mounts by itself and we had to screw it into the floor . Its basically a death trap. My old 1988 Silverado with 350,000 miles ran better. Seriously.

I've rented PT Cruisers for work and I'm very impressed with the build quality. I drove one Cruiser that had 20K miles and there wasn't a rattle. Fit and finish is good, the dash layout is good, the leather seats are very comfortable, and the ride is very supple. I've only rented the auto 2.4 and power was definately useable. This wasn't a sluggish car. Now that they've added an extra 65hp and nearly 100ft/lbs of torque, this sucker will move.

I'd say the PT Cruiser Turbo (which I believe will really be called the GT Cruiser) is only a handful of mods away from 260-270hp. Dodge/Crysler has always been known for building stout turbo motors. The upcoming Neon SRT-4 (turbo) is using the same motor and Dodge is saying 0-60 below 6 seconds. The Neon SRT-4 weighs 2900lbs. I can only assume the Cruiser turbo will run mid 6s which is more than enough to hang with most current Maximas (no G-techs allowed).

By the time you get done breaking it in so you can be racing an 02 Max in one you will need a new transmission and two or three engine repairs...

...Maybe they are climbing out of that reliability pit, but they will have to do it slowly and over time the way VW did. It ain't gonna happen overnight, but I admit they seem to be trying to reverse the trend right now. We'll see.

I think if I put "Flames" my Max, It'll go faster.

If I do put "flames" on my Max, will it void my warranty?

Speaking of PT Cruisers...

Man you should have seen this purple with gold/copper ghost flame paint job. I could live with the paint job, but it was rolling on 15x10 gold wires WITH gold spinners. YUCK!

Now that SRT Neon for under $20K could be interesting. Especially, since Dodge offers Mopar performance parts including ECUs. They've already hinted at Mopar packages that up the boost.

Bye, bye Civic boys.

Chrysler may be good in engineering, but not in quality. How many times were you driving behind a Chrysler-made car that had a blue smoke coming out? I drove behind a '96 or so Cherokee laredo...damn the blue smoke filled my car I nearly choked to death.

Has anyone driven Neon here? That car has no handling after 80mph. Do you want to be killed?

As an avid Jeep fan I emphatically DISAGREE. I've had 4 Jeeps and ALL of them were work horses. ALL OF THEM took massive beatings off road and STILL ran like champs. A 2K2 Pathfinder is a DOG compared to the 2K2 Grand Cherokee....inside and out. Test drive one and you'll notice, too. Reliablity is SOLID, PERIOD. Now I admit, I would never get a Chrysler...but you have to give Jeep credit for what they've accomplished over the past 5 years.

I never noticed any "blue smoke" from my Jeeps...Maybe it came from your crack pipe....

Gotta push the issue on the fools that dis ya... I really like latest Laredos, and I know ppl here in Baltimore who use them as airport cabs, and those 4.0 v6 400k mi+ no major problems.

But I disagree with the way you bring up the Jeep simply because you drive one. It is a fine SUV, and MAYBE better than 2k2 Pathfinder, but is nothing against 4Runner, and I'm not talking about the 0-60 times.

Agreed. The perfect SUV would be a 4Runner with the Jeep GC 4.7 V-8.
