MUST HAVEs for your maxima

i thought i would start a thread that would be partly fun and mostly informative for newbies like myself. so post mod's and the brands that you think are "MUST HAVE" for your maxima and why you think theyre such important additions.

im sure im not going to go as indepth as many of you are, but i dont know much about all this stuff.......... yet, but here goes:

kit - i havent decided on one yet, but its for sure a must.
springs - if ima get a kit, duh i need springs to drop my car a tad.
clears - for me, it drastically improves the appearance.
wheels - havent decided on rims yet.
tires - i need some. anyone gots?

as you can see, i dont know jack. haha, but perhaps reading everyone elses mod's i can get a better idea of what i want.

p.s. i hope this thread doesnt get buried.

Re: MUST HAVEs for your maxima

kit - don't. Simply put. don't. body kits are ricey and 9 times out of 10 overdone and worthless

springs - Eibachs are some of the best street springs. Matched with ground controls and they can be quite good.

clears - Clear/Altezza Taillamps are ricey and generally bad taste. Side markers... no purpose but, hey, it's up to the owner.

wheels - Get light rims. Don't get anything bigger than 16s. Get the smallest rim that'll fit around your brake calipers.

tires - cheap street tire - Kumho 712s. Expensive street tire - Pirelli 7000s

Re: MUST HAVEs for your maxima

Rear view Mirror - Broadway (the best mod yet)
Kit - which ever one you like (I have AE)
Clears - a must
HIDs - i don't know how I've lived so long without them
Y-pipe - definitely ( i don't have one, but everyone swears by it)
Springs - any european made ones (e.g B+G, H&R)...bad 4x4, bad
Struts - hopefully some KYBs when they get released..btw, are the GR2s out yet for 5th gen?
Cardomain.com - check it out for ideas
GReddy Evo Catback exhaust system - I like the sound and or subtle HP gains

Just a little bit for you to get started. Like Pringles says,"Once you pop, you can't stop", or in our case,"Once you mod..."

Re: MUST HAVEs for your maxima

Kit: I just purchased the ninja kit but too each his own.
Springs: I have the H&R's. The drop is subtle but the handling is really improved. I am waiting to purchase the KYB's, which I saw on sale on Cattman's site.
Clears: No need for them since the ninja kit replaces the front and rear bumpers.
Wheels: I would go with something in the 18x7.5-8 range. With the H&R springs, 18's should fill the wheel gap up perfectly, if that's the kind of look you like.
Tires: Michelin Pilot Sports, but their are a lot of good tires out there. SuperStreet just did a few page layout of some good tires in their march mag.
Y-Pipe: Everyone swears by them, especially GA members, so I just caved in and bought a Stillen Y-Pipe. I hear that Cattman Y-Pipes are better though but they were out of stock and I am an inpatient person.
Have fun and remember, when it comes down to it, it's your car so do what you like!!!!

Must Have

Well im a spirited driver, so i did my suspension which includes the following: STILLEN FSTB RSTB RSB w/ Tokicos and Eibachs.

The i wanted my car to look kinda flashy so i got the following kit: STILLEN Aero Kit w/ Front Touring Spoiler.

I cleared my sider markers out and places orange bulbs and red bulbs and kept it stock looking.

Then i wanted a little power so i got the following intake:
STILLEN Hi-Flow Intake.

I also wanted to see what my car can do so i went out and bought a nice meter: APEXi Rev/Speed Meter.

As for rims to each their own. im rolling on stock 17's and loving them. But i did get rid of Potenzas and got NITTOS (NT-450's) NICE!

Hope that added some input.

Different Tastes

Everyone prioritizes different things.
Some go for all power, some for just looks and some just for air freshners.
I def. need the sound, and a lil power. so i got air filter and an exhaust, but too loud didn't go with my classy maxima, so i'm happy with just a muffler. from then on i went handling and looks.
fstb and rsb, hopefully h&Rs soon, and clears, tint, stillen lip, chrome rims, and a system.
Even though i'm not done, everyone knows it's not my moms Maxima" .lol buahhaha

1. Orange to red flames on the quarter panels - looks best on Black Maxs.
2. A Firebird on the hood. (for perfomance purposes)
3. Curb Feelers to protect my rims - on all four to have a balanced look.
4. A BMW Logo on the hood and on the trunk lid.
5. Chrome tailpipe extenders.
6. Gold Ronals with knockoffs & spacers to extend the rim 6" past the wheel well for that not so tucked look.
7. Reflectors on the rocker panels.
8. A butterfly steering wheel.
9. Sheepskins to cover my leather seats.
10. A new air horn.
11. Reflective Playboy logo on my mud flaps - because thats what I am.

and the final thing - my name mural'ed under my door handle and "my lady" under the passenger door handle.

TIRES

After having caught the mod bug I can honestly say all those things are not "necessary", but I got them anyway because I can. If someone could only buy ONE mod I would have to say ditch the Potenza RE92s in favor of just about any other tire out there. The RE92s are such a waste of rubber and contribute to VERY poor handling...especially in wet conditions. IMO, upgrading tires would be the safest and most practical mod out there. Go to tirerack.com and read the tire reviews there...they are very helpful.
