put a ton of muffler tape? or some other heat-resistant insullator?

my only concern with adding any aftermarket exhaust parts (although, I would probably only go Y-pipe) is that I will turn into those people that I hate...the loud ones that set off car alarms, or wake me up during sweet sweet sleep...damn Hondas...

thoughts? ideas? is the Y-pipe MUCH louder?

thanks!

I used header wrap and it did the trick around just the flex section.

Just a Y pipe will not change your exhaust noise much. I just put on a Warpspeed Y and the exhaust is no louder and maybe slightly deeper, but I never listened that close before I put the Y pipe on so .

I belive any kind of header wrap will cause the pipe to become to hot and possibly cause the welds to fail,

Lots of people ran the wrap with the old cattman pipes for a long time due to noise. I dont think many of them if any hit problems with it.

get whatever you want, and keep the stock muffler. Then you won't have any issues with you're exhaust being loud.

This is directly from Brian C Catts
"You can count on header wrap bringing your pipe to a substantially hastened
demise, header wrap is as deadly to y-pipes as it is to headers and should
only be used for racing purposes. Only rusted stainless y-pipe I have ever
seen was from under header wrap, amazing."

Im hesitant to even wrap my flex section now.

If you live in a coastal area, or especially if you live in an area that uses road salt, DO NOT use header wrapping. I sent mine out to repair to Brian and mine had shallow rust on it (yes even 304 stainless). Reason most likely being the roads around me are salted. Fortunately, the flex section was not wrapped, so it really was not an issue in this case. But let it be known that since the Y pipe is under the car it has a tendency to pick up alot of road grime. Even if you're in a place that does not use road salt, the road water can't be good for it. When the pipe comes back, I'm going to clean it off, polish it and possibly paint it with high temp clear coat.

I've been told wrapping the y-pipe isnt good at all. It stiffens up the pipe and puts more pressure the on welds/joints.

hmm.. who's the smart guy that told you that?

I've yet to see the Warpspeed in person so I can't judge the quality of the welds and such, but in general, header wrap retains the heat, placing more stress on the welds. Weaker welds result in cracking at the flanges.

I wouldn't say harsh, anyone willing to do all that work deserves to say whatever they want.... plus you proved a point, not just some rambling off the top of your head (seems to happen quite a bit)
