Experience with extended warranty companies ?

Greetings all -

I purchased a '99 Max SE 5-spd new with no extended warranty. The time has expired (mileage 16,200) and the car is stock, except for an FSTB. While it is not my daily driver, it may become that in another year. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with aftermarket companies like Warranty Direct. I'm not looking for the "should I or shouldn't I" discussion, rather, I am looking for experience from those who took the plunge.

Thanks in advance !

Yeah I was curious about this issue as well, I went on the warrantybynet website for a quote and it seemed pretty legit. But then a couple of days later they started calling me up, they have now called five times. The fact that they are pushing me like that makes me feel they might be shady

Does anybody have any "testimonials"

I don't have a testimonial but I do have an extended warranty from warrantybynet. I do agree, the price is very good for the coverage they provide.

When I got the warranty last year, I was never pressured. I spoke to them, and they sent me an e-mail with all the information. They then e-mailed me a few days later to make sure that I got the information and they gave me a contact number in case I had additional questions, etc.

I spoke to Susan Giese - very helpful.
I'm trying to get my starter motor replaced under the warranty since it is covered ... now I've just got to take it to a shop. I went to a dealership and they wanted to charge $89 to diagnose the problem, to hell with that. I'm going to a local shop who does imports only.

Hope this helps.

I appreciate the information. There is precious little 3rd-party feedback on these things. I am looking at one (I think 70k/5 yr/ $100 deduct) for a thousand bucks. I don't know if the low milage on this car is a good or a bad thing. Things will probably start breaking next year !

Maybe I'm missing something here, but are you saying that your '99 has only 16K miles on it? You're obviously past the 3-year bumper-to-bumper warranty, but you have at least 1.5 years (depending on when the car was first purchased) left on the 5-year powertrain warranty. The way I look at it, the powertrain stuff is the only stuff that is likely to break and/or expensive to fix, so I wouldn't worry about this until you get close to the powertrain warranty's expiration.

BTW, when I looked into 3rd-party extended warranties last year (I never got one), I seem to recall that they're a lot cheaper if you buy them while you're existing warranty is still good. Not sure if that counts if you only have a powertrain warranty, but it's worth checking into.

I haven't had any experience on claiming yet, so we'll see

Don't worry about things breaking so soon ... if it was taken care of, it'll keep going.

Good luck
