Have you ever run out of gas?

Today I was on my 2 wheeled Honda buying stuff to quiet the minima. I had to go to the next town because nobody in my town had Peel and Seal. So anyway, I got lost coming back and had forgot to fill up gas, although my reserve indicator was on while on the way down. Well I probably damn near ran outta gas, but it reminded me of a few times I almost ran out of gas.

Lets see, most scary time, in my 90 Camry I was driving home from college from Miami to the Autotrain outlet in Orlando and on the FL turn pike the orange E light was staring me in the face for 40 miles straight cause there were no gas station. And if I missed the train, I would miss my ride to go back to Maryland, so I'd be drivin all those 1200 miles.

Now, the most embaressing time I had was I was at the drag strip in my Maxima maybe a year ago. I ran out of gas going down the drag strip. Not completely, but under the hard acceleration the gas managed to flow away from the fuel pump pickup, thus I had a studdering engine. I first thought I broke somethin, but as I looked down the orange E light was shining bright in my eyes. So then as I was leaving, I get into it with a VW VR6 Jetta. Yup, the engine wouldnt rev above 3000 RRPM, so this guy puts on his flashers and all and I feel like a complete idiot.

Re: Have you ever run out of gas?

i've never really come too close to running out of gas, i usually try to fill up as soon as the light comes on, or at least within 15 miles...but a couple times i have taken it to 30 miles over and that's about it...don't wanna push my luck...but isn't it really bad for the car to run that low into the tank? cuz then doesn't the dirt and crap built up at the bottom of the tank make its way into the engine?...just wondering...

Yep ... X-mas Eve. I had totally forgotten to gas up the whole day and I was rushing to meet a friend for some coffee. Gunned it a little too hard at one intersection and the car stalled on me. I had to drift to the side, restart the car and chug the two blocks to the gas station.

ive only had my new max about 2 weeks, well a couple days after i got it, i noticed it had been on E for a while on the way to school, didnt pay much attention to it cuz i was in a hurry, so im parked on a slope and when i go out to start my car, apparently the gas had all moved and there wasnt enough to start, so i had to roll some in neutral to get my car to start...extremely embarassing since everyone was looking at my new car

twice...
once in the GF's max.. she want to see how far it can go when the light comes on.. so we drove 45 miles to Madison WI.. just when I was getting off highway.. the car shuts down... had to limp back to the gas station.. good thing it's only 1/2 block away.

Second time, I went to the airport picking up GF..when we got back, it was late already, so I just decided to fill up the next morning.. and when I tried to start the car up next morning, because the way my parking spot is.. it's slated downward a little, so I guess whatever amount of gas left in there was tilted... so the car won't start.. had to walk 4 blocks to get some gas... and the gas station didn't have a gas canaster.. so I had to buy a jar of water.. dump it all out.. and fill the jar up with gasline..

OUCH, sorry to hear that 'bout the Max.

I never came close with the '98 SE, but I did it 3 times with 2 old cars, a 4-spd 244GL and a VW Scirocco.

If it every happens with your Max fellas, PLEASE don't ever attempt to run on fumes or push start. Just call us on the cell bro'. Can you hear me now? GOOD! hehe I got the v60c as a demo, it's nice. But I like the Panasonic DuraMax the most. Very nice when you're on the floor, in an IDF or MDF. Well, not as good as Nextel 2-way but 4.9 ounces with Li-ion...... When you work for a corp. you can't choose what makes sense, corp always cheaps out! heh
