Transmission Trouble

Tonight when I got into my car to come home from work I started the car as normal. I sat in the caar for about two minutes before I got going. When I went to move the car I was not able to shift it into any gears. The clutch appeared to be working fine but the shifter was not moving through its regular pattern. My car moved forward and I was able to get the car out of the parking spot by dirving on the grass and doing a U turn on the lawn. I still was not able to get into a different gear. I jacked the car up and was not able to find anything that looked different. I had my clutch replaced in December 2001 but I have been driving the car around without any problems. I have had NO signs of any problems until tonight. The area where I parked my car did not have nay parts or leaks by it. I was able to get the car home. I drove it at about 30mph at 3k RPM. Luckilly it was late at night and I was able to take some back roads. Any information that anyone can provide as to what may be the cause of this situation is greatly apreciated. Right now the car is just sitting in the driveway but I need it to get to work

Yet another 4th gen manual transmission bites the dust. Did you check to make sure your tranny has fluid in it? I would not be the least bit surprised if your tranny is toast though, these transmissions have a real bad time it seems. Be prepared to pay big bucks, import transmissions are not cheap.

All of the fluids are good. I talked to a couple of different guys that work on these cars and they say that it may have something to do with the linkage. Any ideas?

Well it was not anything that was listed above. I'll explain it the best that i can. The dealer mechanic removed the transmision and found that two of the "shifter rails" were in the up position. Only one is to be up at a time, depending on the gear that you are in 1-2, 3-4, 5-R. They worked on the car for about two days before discovering that a pin that holds the rails in place was missing. No idea where it is nor where it went. The pin was replaced everything was put back together and the car has been running fine ever since. Best of all is that there was NO CHARGE for this.
