I'm not big into either nav or DVD, but I think alpine has a unit for that.

Alpine's top of the line NAV is DVD based, but the NAV can't play music or movie DVD's. I think Pioneer finally upgraded their NAV to a DVD system, and possibly Kenwood as well. I can't remember what the Blaupunkt uses. But I am pretty sure that the NAV's are stand alone systems with no movie or music ability. If any of them had that ability I would have bought it 2 years ago.

All DVD based GPS systems are ROM based and will NOT play video or audio DVD's....you will have to buy a seperate DVD player to play videos. Stick with the Alpine or Kenwood GPS systems. They use the same software by NavTech which is lightning fast. Stay away from the Blaupunkt. Just my .02c

Once it gets more popular and you see it more and more in cars the prices will drop.

Or for those lucky enough to have a laptop, you use your laptop with a GPS system attached. I'm sure its no where near as good as the Alpine, Kenwood, Eclipse, etc systems, but heck, the hardware and software usually is around $200. Beats paying over a grand.

Laptap DVD Player

Yepper, bought a copilot GPS nav unit for my notebook. I like it better than the installed car units. Its easier to input your destinations using the keyboard vs scrolling through streets, etc. Voice command and bigger screen also. It's also transferable btw cars. Also I have a DVD player so can play movies also.

yeah.. thats what I tell myself..

I have Teletype for my Ipaq and SA8 for my laptop. I've tried them all.. and I thought they were better than Nav systems. and last year it was true.. but have you seen the new Kenwood stuff??? I checked it out this weekend. $2k is alot of money, but it's a great touchscreen DVD based system. And the maps are *finally* current. I was really blown away. Alpine isnt really impressing me yet.

Umm...wrong. Pioneers DVD Nav unit is all in a single din. Plays Nav DVD disk, Audio CD or DVD movies.
