I30 (Limited Slip) - Max 5 speed tranny swap completed !!!

Just got my max back today with my Infinti 5 speed (Limited Slip Diff) tranny installed. All I can say is . As I entered the highway around the curve I hit the gas, the front wheels kept on grabbing and asking for more, cool.

You see, my maxima's regular 5speed tranny bearings started to give out on me, so i took it to the dealer for estimates. They told me about $700 to fix the bearings, VS. $1500 for a used tranny w/installation. So at this point, after I picked up my jaw from the ground, i left the dealer in hopes of finding other options, poooor college student. So I went back to my room and just sat there gazing at my wall. Then it hit me, the INTERNET. I punched up my computer, looked at ebay and guess what I saw. An auction for a 1997 Infiniti I30t 5Speed transmisson with Limited Slip Diff. The cost, starting at $100. So after about 3days of waiting for the bid to close I place a bid during the last 2 minutes for $200 bucks, I ended up winning the auction for about $126. That's right $126. And it was located in Maryland, i just so happened to have a friend that lives there and was coming up to NY the same week ($0 shipping cost ) After days of researching maxima.org as well as local shops i found a competent tranny place who was willing to do the swap for $312, so I gave him the go-ahead and also got my clutch replaced and flywheel resurfaced one time. The SACHS Clutch, is really smooth. After I bought the axle seals from infiniti, about $5/side, and I got the d/s axle from carquest ($79.99) - (I did not need P/S as it is the same on either tranny and I just had the P/S axle rebuilt about 2 weeks ago), I put her into the shop, and that's where I am at now.

Also, just in case any one wants to know, the only thing I had to change was the d/s axle (the p/s axle is the same).
Total Cost break down:
EBAY (1997 Infiniti LSD Tranny) - $126 + $0 shipping
D/S Axle - $79.99
SACH Clutch Kit - $165.00
Labor (Tranny Swap + Clutch Install + Flywheel Resurface) $380.00
Total = $750 (not to bad for all the work that was done in my humble opinion)

All in all I am very happy with the outcome and I think that I am now among the few who can say they have a U.S. Spec 1995 Nissan Maxima SE with Limited Slip Diff.

So all you need to swap a Infinity tranny into a Max is a new clutch, and driver side half shaft?

Thanks

The clutch doesnt have to be changed but it is on of those things you want to do while it is out anyhow. That way it saves you having to fix it later and again remove the tranny.

<click- bang> Man I searched the internet for a month for an I30t tranny and then you find one on ebay for $126. I feel like a schmuck now. Congrats on the VLSD though, I've driven a Max with a Quaife and it is definately sweet.
