Tranny Stuck--help!!

My auto Trans is like stuck, I got in the car, and pulled it down, and it was REALLY hard to pull down, really sticky/jammed/stuck. It goes down to drive, but doesnt lock there, It starts trying to slide back up into Neutral, and then it locks. What could this be??
thanks

Sounds like a perfect time and excuse to do the 5spd swap....

Sounds like something is binding in the shifter linkage. Probably not a big deal. Take the center console apart and look at the underside of the shifter. The problem could also be upfront where the shifter cable attaches to the tranny.

It could just be something sticky in there....on my 95 auto,...

..I spilled an entire 20oz pepsi all over the shifter and it got just how you describe. Ill say its worth pulling off the plastic piece and looking down there for anything obstructing movement.

I also cracked the plastic around the numbers/letters so that when i attempt to pull it out of park it resists due to the crack buckling, so I have to pull hard or push down the on the crack. (If you can understand all that).

When I am in D there is a bit of play, and you can just push it into nuetral if your not careful. You can push the shifter foreward without using the button, but not past nuetral.(Mine anyways)

PS-my tranny is fine for now(big knock on wood)
