attaching stainless steel muffler tip...(has 2 wholes) best way to attach (not weld)?

i got this stainless steel muffler tip (its 2.5" outlet/inlet) no ricey 4" outlet or anything like that...I just got it for temporary use for my back side to look decent until i get a nice exhaust system. The tip is 6" long...and ithas 2 wholes(which look like screw wholes at the end) ... what im wondering is...does it make sense to screw/drill this tip into the stock muffler(is it doable, realistic?)...will this in anyway mess up the muffler if i choose to take tip off later but leave stock muffler with these small wholes?

I don't want to waste money welding it...cuz i don't think its worth the money...so i want to attach it somehow myself..any suggestions???

thanks

to have a tip welded on wood prolly cost like 5-10 bucks.......but yes, those screws are so you can screw it onto your stock tip.

Those screw holes are probably for set screws. THe tip should have come with them but if not just take the tip to Home Depot and walk around the screw aisle with it until you find the right size screws. Then just insert the screws and tighten them down so there's enough tension to hold it snug to the muffler tip. You don't have to screw them through the muffler tip but I guess you could if you wanted. If the muffler tip is real rusted out I would probably try to put the screws through it rather than crush it with the tension.
I've been writing papers for school lately so all my posts are kinda long. Sorry

Most bolt-on tips come with 3 screws so that they won't rattle around on your muffler. With only 2 screws, it will not be steady because it will either bounce up and down or left to right (especially if you have a lowered car). But you can always try, it can't hurt unless the car behind you honks and you notice a large muffler tip in his windshield. Like Toolrocks said, go to home depot and buy come screws (make sure they are not pointed). If the fit in the tip, they will be fine on the muffler. They just screw it on very tightly, and hope it doesn't rattle. Here's a pic of my bolt-on tip (don't worry it'll soon be replaced with an catback ).

I got a Brospeed stainless steel bolt-on tip. I found that if the s/s tip was set too far out on the exhaust pipe, I heard a whistling sound that got louder as I stepped on the gas more. By pushing the tip further in towards the car, the whistling went away. I think this has something to do with the way the exhaust passes over/around the rolled edge of the tip (rolled inside). This is just something for you to watch out for depending on the design of your tip.

ok...i see....So what size length of the screw should i get? It's kind of hard to tell...basically..how long should the screw be so that it makes the tip stay on tight...but does not stick out of muffler & doesn't penatrate muffler?

Also...I don't really see how without drilling into the muffler with 2 screws you can make the tip stay connected tight with muffler.

Well, seeing that it's only a 2.5" tip, I would think a 1" screw should more that safice. And if the tip is 6" long you won't see the screws even if they are big, so don't worry about that. Just take the tip in with you and make sure the screw fits tightly (remember, better tight than loose in this case).

That's the point, I don't think you can. If you have a drill and are fairly handy with it, consider drilling another hole in the tip for a 3-screw platform. This way it will stay centered over the acutal muffler and won't rattle.

yea i might drill the 3rd whole...seems like it will be hard & i'll need a special bit to drill steel.
