Rear break disk and new pads... squeeeeek!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey all,,, I dunno... I installed an new right rear disk rotor and new rear pads for both rear breaks... and the side where I installed the new disk rotor... I am getting an annoying, really loud squeel kinda squeek. Do you know what is causing it??
I was told that if you install new disk rotors,, you have to sand down the new rotors so the break pads will work properly... nor is it prolly the cheap disk pads I put on that were from AutoZone??
any ideas.???
Thanks

Sqealing can almost always be traced to installation issues. Were the proper clips and anit-squeel shims or paste used?
They should never squeal, it has nothing to do with the pads and rotors bedding in when new.

Also I think I've had every possible brake pad on my max. I'm back to stock OEM pads, cause although some of the other performance pads seemed to grip better, they squealed like b!itches and created tons of dust. So stay with OEM pads. I doubt AutoZone pads are any different.
Also, make sure you replace the pad shims on the rear. They come in a brake hardware kit from Nissan. It's also got new anti-rattle springs and other stuff that's a good idea to replace. I had a persistent squeal and other bad noises from my back left brake that went away when I did the whole brake-hardware kit.
To prep new rotor(s):
1) Completely clean the grease/oil off the rotors with brake cleaner. Try to spray it heavily in the vents too of the rotor to get oil out of there. Dry them completely.
2) Take some light sandpaper and using a tight circular swirling motion, go over the whole rotor on both sides. This step isn't totally necessary for a new rotor but it helps break in the new pads a little faster. This step IS necessary if you're putting an old rotor back that still has that shiny "glaze" of polished iron on it. The sanding helps break up that glaze.
THE most important step once your done is breaking the new pads/rotors in. Do like 30-40 stops from 40mph or so with a gentle application of the brake. Give em' time to cool in between. Try not to cook the new brakes for several hundred miles.
Good luck
