I am so ****ed! Problems getting starter off

I decided that I would try to regrease my starter today and I ran into a problem. I got everything off of the and then I go to take off the 2 bolts that hold on the starter. I can kind of feel where the top bolt is (http://www.cybrrpartspro.com/Chilton...1/89612pl2.jpg) but I have no idea where the other one is and I don't want to take off the wrong bolt.

Is there just that one bolt that I have to take off or is there a second one?

If anyone can give me some pointers (other than look at Motorvate's website), I would greatly appreciate it.

The other bolt is 180 degrees, directly opposite the bolt (empty hole) you see in the picture you attached. You may need a universal joint, and when I removed my starter that second bolt was in REALLY tight.

I suggest you purchase a spare starter just in case regreasing doesn't go well. I tried regreasing my starter but broke on the bolts which holds the starter together, just from hand tightening! Luckily I had a spare starter, which I installed. If you don't use the spare starter, you can always return it to the store for a refund.

I re-greased my starter 2 weekends ago. I used motorvate's site as a guide, and also noticed a previous thread by Eric L. about over tightening the bolts Since I didn't have another starter motor, I just tightened the bolts to the point where it was just over hand on ratchet tight.

The 2nd bolt is there, just as Eric described, at 180 degrees from the first one. You'll need a 17 mm socket for that one.

Another thing to keep in mind, when you get to the actual gears, there's the one big gear surrounding the 3 little ones. You have to re-greases all those, as everyone has said.

But, when putting everything back together, the big gear, it falls into places several different ways in the top part of the motor, but only one way is correct. The correct way is where you can fit the 2 longs nuts through that screw the whole starter motor together.

Think that I found the other bolt

Going from the empty hole in the picture. If I followed the metal bracket all the way to the right, I would find the 2nd bolt right? I am trying to find it by touch b/c I can hardly see anything with all this SC tubing in the way. It feels like it is on the very outskirts of the right hand side of the metal bracket. I put a 17mm socket on it and it fits. They are not the same size nuts right? (One on the left looks like it has a recessed face while the 17mm one on the right is flat faced).

Are those the right ones?

Re: Think that I found the other bolt

Yup they are not the same size. the 17 mm one is the one you can't see. Wish I had and SC in the way, though. I pulled all my CAI intake stuff out of the way and had a clear shot of both sides.
