Tune up questions?

Hey guys! I have some questions about doing a tune up on a maxima, a friend just bought a 95 Maxima 3.0L with about 100k on it. He does'nt have a computer so he asked me to find some things out. We are going to be adding some performance parts CAI, cat back, Y pipe ect. First we want to do a tune up, change the oil, sparkplugs, fuel filter, ect. My first question is how do you get to the rear spark plugs? It may seem silly but when I first looked at it, it looks like you have to remove the intake manifold to get to it. So what is required to get the plugs out and is there any special plugs that you would recommend? And is there any other things that you guys recommend? Thanks!

NGK platinums are real good plugs - no you dont have to remove anything to get to the 3 plugs in the back, grab two extensions, they are right behind the exhaust manifold

There are individual coils held in by two screws on top of each spark plug. You will need to remove the plastic cover on the front valve cover to gain access to the front three. There is no cover on the rear valve cover so look between the intake runners. Just remove the coils being careful to not drop the screws that secure the coils. They will always fall into a place where you can't find them. You will need a 12" extension to reach the rear plugs. I wouldn't suggest using two 6" extensions, unless you have the type that can lock together, because getting the plug socket out after tightening the plug can be a PITA and the extensions always seem to separate before the socket comes out.

The best plugs for this engine are the ones it was designed to use. NGK PFR5G-11. Available from Courtesy Nissan (courtesyparts.com) for $56.23 in a six-pack. I tried using Bosch Platinum the first time I changed mine because they are much cheaper but the car really didn't like them at all. Didn't idle as smoothly and mileage went down.
