2002 Dodge Intrepid R/T or SXT

Hey all,
Has anyone seen these new Intrepids? They look like they may be worthy opponents for Maximas...The Intrepid SXT and R/T share a 3.5L High Output V6 24V MPI which produces 244 horses with a 4-Speed Automatic.
Does anyone know anything else about these cars? They look pretty sleek but I'm not a big domestic fan myself. I was just wondering if anyone thinks they would be able to compete with the Max
Peace

Mid to high 7's 0-60. Believe it or not, you need to fear the Neon SRT-4 more, it is projected to run 5.9 0-60.

No contest...the Autostick's are good...But they don't cut it. I'd say that a better competitor (at least for '01 and below Max's) are the new Stratus R/T sedans. They have a 5 speed manual and they're decently quick. I drove one before deciding on the '02 Maxima.

Yea I heard about that little focker...It will be the fastest car available under 20 Bills, and its only a 4. My Uncle helped work on the SRT and Ram with the v10 Viper engine. He also was involved with the production of the Pontiac Solstice.

Nice inside info. I might have to consider a *gasp* DCX product with the SRT-4 at $20k.

And DCX is supposedly unleashing their own performance-parts division a la AMG, M, SVT, Nismo. Talk on those boards has the SRT-4 running 5.2-5.4 0-60 with basic mods (chip for the turbo ECU, etc.)

Yikes, Porsche hunting in a Neon.

It's the DCX body all right...but the engine/turbo and presumably the tranny are mitsu design. This is the same setup that will be in the new PT Turbo.

It's nice having a relative that works for a car company...now if it were only a different one

Though not in the same class, the Dodge Razor is also going to be a worthy opponent to the Max on the track. Though, that may even be a far fetch.

For less than 15 bills, 250hp and a sub 3k lbs. body to boot.

Yea, it's pretty cool having an uncle who is an automobile enthusiast. He works for Detroit-based GM and Ford Companies. He is currently involved with Ford Special Projects, which has recently produced the Ford GT-40. He said that the GT-40 will become a production vehicle, with a small amount being produced within the next few years for about 150,000. Another bit of tasty information...He said that there was a rumor of the possibility of Ford declaring bankruptcy in the next couple years. The reason for this is steeply declining car sales, while Ford is focusing mainly on its gas-guzzling truck and SUV sales. Many of Ford's current models are in desperate need of remodeling; however, there is no remodeling scheduled in the next few years, and the Ford car lineup has been plagued with blah styling and typical domestic bugs and breakdowns...But hey, people who rent Taurus's from Hertz don't seem to mind.

I'll keep ya posted on any further news that makes it's way thru the grapevine

peace...

Ford won't be going anywhere. If the govt is willing to bail Crysler out a couple times, they will probably give Ford a ton, if needed.

Hey it's not just Ford they would have to bail out, it would be Volvo, Mercury, Jaguar, etc. etc. Chrysler is a much smaller auto division and costs far less than the Ford and other related automobile manufacturers franchise. Ford may be headed to the sh!tter, and the government would not be willing to bail them out with billions upon billions of bills. Remember, it's just a rumor, and if Ford declares bankruptcy, the process would take years to be resolved.

After 3-4 runs of kicking it's *** you will drive by the Chrysler trying to avoid the transmision oil puddle!
