we installed a carbon fiber hood on my Max tonite. Put 1 hood strut on.
what was the prob why no one could use hood struts? actaully at first it seemed like it was gonna tear the fiberglass out so we put a metal bracket there and its all good. I dont like the fitment of the hood. kinda feel ripped off to pay $500+ on a hood that doesnt fit great. gotta adjust this, this side bulges, this side is tweaked weird...argghhh

Dont the struts cause a problem when the hood is down not up? I remember them saying that was the problem with carbon fiber hoods and hood struts. When the hood is down it is constantly pushing up on the hood and will eventually warp it so that it buckles upwards.

 

I got 2 hood struts on mine and it hasnt caused any problems.

did you go straight into the fiberglass. it makes alot of cracking creaking noises and seems like its gonna tear. thats why we used the bracket...

 

i drilled holes for hood struts and just put a washer and a nut on the other side. fitment sucks huh? welcome to the club.

 

The hoods are warped anyways so warpage really doesn't matter haha. Both of mine are warped, and so is everyone elses. Fiberimages has a severely F'd up mold.

BTW... do you still sell those fuel pressure regulators? They are by SARD, right? how much?

 

AHH... you were the SC max he was talking about, lol. yup, i've still got the SARD FPR's. they're going for $140 + shipping. if you need the fuel rail off-fitting, it's an extra $11.

hot drive, turbo

that way the heat from your motor will soften
the hood a tiny bit... enough for it to settle down

i wonder how much heat it would take to soften the hood
anyways

 

Oh hey Matthel, I meant to tell you this. In the current month's European Car, they had a fiberglass and carbon fiber specialist shop make a vent in their project M3's carbon fiber hood. They had a fiberglass vent, and took it to the shop and then he modeled the vent into the plain CF hood, without actually using the vent so they didn't have to paint it. I think you are in SoCal so you might want to look into it, I believe the shop is in SoCal too.

whats the weight ratio between stock hood and carbon fiber hood..

ive been thinking about getting one, and mounting it to open to the side, obviously a stock hood would take a lot of work to have all that weight supported so the CF would be much easier

I hope us 3rd genners that are getting CF hoods made by Fiber Images dont get the same fitment problems.

I've even heard some Honduh boys complain about Fiber Images CF hoods...

Ah well....cant be THAT bad, and besides, a nice 3rd gen with a CF hood? Shoooooooot.

 

Turbo or Sx7r .. would you guys mind posting pics of the brace or the washers? I don't quite understand which way you'd put them.. TIA.
