fog lights keep blowing fuse, please help!

ok, friday afternoon i rewired my fog lights using the directions off of a website that Sprint posted for me so i could turn them on with my corner lights and not my headlights. well they worked fine but when i replaced my bulbs on saturday with nokya arctic whites now they keep blowing the fuses. is it because it is a higher wattage bulb? maybe the rewire has something to do with it? i used 18 guage wire on the relay but i think the factory wire was 20 gauge.....would that be it? please help, this sux!

How much wattage are you running with the Nokya H3 bulbs?

do what? so is it because the wattage is too high? doesn't anyone run higher wattage fogs?

Sorry, my car is under wraps so I can't check the fuse rating.

55W/12V = 4.6A each fog = 9.2 A
85W/12V = 7.1A each fog = 14.2A

I'm going to guess that both fogs are tied to the same fuse, and Nissan is probably using a 15A fuse for stock wattage.

Fuses are typically rated for 80% continuous use (assuming no drastic surge or spikes) so 15A is good for about 12A ....

Check your fuse please. If you're using a 15A, that's why it's blowing.

1) I don't know if the wire is capable of handling the extra current, please check with other .org members who are running 85W to see if they have any problems.

2) I don't know if the housing can handle the extra heat but I'm guessing it's probably ok.

so basically i should try a bigger fuse? because i put in another 15A and it blew too. what size do you recommend? 20A?

Sorry to not be able to help you. I can say that 15A fuse will blow (not immediately but it will).

20A will not blow based on the current draw BUT I don't know if there'll be a problem with the wiring. I tried searching the forum but I never got a result for 4th gen and overwattage fogs.

Unless someone else is running overwattage and hasn't had problems, I probably wouldn't risk it. Your choice though. Sorry

Could you have done the rewire wrong? Are all the splices secure, no loose connections? Did you use heatshrink tube for the splices to prevent shorts? Grounds are sure? That's the only thing I can think of.

Umm, when you replaced the fogs, did you make sure the H3 ground is tight? Did you secure the locking lever in the fog housing?
