Fuel injector f'd up?

When I start the car after it's been sitting for awhile, one of the cylinders isn't firing. My theory is that it is leaking fuel while parked and it is flooding the cylinder so it doesn't fire when I turn it on. BUT, whenever I put the car into gear and go about 100FT (not an exact measurement ) it'll stop doing it and won't do it again till I let it sit for more than 30 minutes. Whatcha think?

Re: Fuel injector f'd up?

so the problem goes away after you drive it for a while?? any abnormal hesitation?

sounds like what happen to me 2 weeks ago before my #5 injector died...I'd start the car, it would idle horribly and it sputtered like a go kart when I accelerated...after about 5 minutes it was back to normal, then after it sat for about an hour, I'd start it back up and back to sputtering, next day it just went to complete sputtering and thats when I found out injector 5 was gone!! just ordered my rebuilt set of 6 on Monday, should be here next week!

DA-Max

You are just an endless stream of maxima info! Thanks!
That's exacly what my car is doing! How did you find out that it was your #5 injector? Are you doing this work yourself? How much is it costing you to get 1 of these injectors?

Re: DA-Max

thanks man, just sharing what I've been taught!

First off you can try to locate the "bad" cylinder...
one by one diconect a spark plug wire at the distributor(don't touch any metal or you'll get shocked..I did a few times, its not that bad ) when you disconnect a plug wire, listen for the engine noise to change, then as you plug the wire back into the dist. listen again the engine noise should change again. do this one by one for each wire(other than the coil, I guess) now chances are if something is wrong in a particular cylinder when you pull its wire there will be NO CHANGE in noise!

basically I'll sum it up:
pull #1 wire--> nosie changes plug #1 back in, its OK
pull #2--> no change in noise(something might be wrong in the #2 cylinder, etc.)

now this isn't definite and it might not just be the injectors or the plug, but its a start! also check you compression, if its between 120-170psi chances are its the injector!

as for the injector job, I'm gonna partake it on myself, I figure since I can take everything off down to the heads anyways, might as well do this too!!! I'll be using Bryan91se's directions:
http://members.csinet.net/tisch/maxima/injectors.htm

now heres the deal with the rebuilt injectors, Directauto.com rebuild them for $45 a piece, I highly suggest IF possible you do all 6 at once(thats what I'm doing), but if you can just do the one thats bad then so be it! but total for all 6 is ~$275(w/ a $50 core charge) so total about $350! and they have a 12 month warranty as well!!! you have to call to order becasue they aren't listed on the site.

Wow! Thanx man!

I think I could handle this sh....tuff myself. What do you think about polishing the intake while I got it off? just a little sandpaper on a drill head and woooola, you got yourself a polished intake! Think I'll try it in a couple of weeks here! Later.

I had similar symptoms after I had my injector replaced.

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....threadid=90591

You might want to clean the injector contacts (mine were green! and it helped a lot to clean it off) and check for ~12ohm resistance on the injector plugs before taking off the intake plenum. Also, maybe check the color of the spark plugs. If it is black then you are running rich - it could be your o2 sensor or a leaking injector. If white, then it is running lean.. possibly a clogged injector or dying injector. You can also listen to the injectors. If one of the injectors is ticking quieter than the others or not at all then it is your culprit.

Computers?

How are you guys checking your ohm readings? I guess you have a handheld computer to help you out or something. I just replaced my sparkies last weekend and it made a big diff. If I get my car tuned up, do they check the air/fuel mixture along with the timing? Also, is there any tell-tale sign that the O2 sensor is going on it and what symptoms would that give me?
