For those who cleared their tails themselves

how much did this procedure cost? i mean, all you really need to spend money on is a heat gun and the flourescent light cover right? can you just rent the heat gun as well? so it's probably going to cost around 40 bucks? give or take? what about you guys? oh by the way i'm most likely going to perform this mod because of the money it'll save me compared to buying this kit.thanks in advance

You'll also need an amber bulb for the turn signal.

You can rent a heat gun for about 10 bucks, Id guess this mod costs about 20-25 bucks. Takes alot of time and is very tedious!

$ 5.98 thats it
1 sheet of fluoroscent light cover
2 amber bulbs

There is NO reson to use/rent/buy a heat gun.

The boiling water method works MUCH better than a heat gun or the oven

I've actually done it using my mom's hair dryer. I actually skipped the florescent covers, and cleared all 4 tails.

Skipped the covers? Could you please post some pics of this look. I was thinking about opening the inner tails and replacing the stock clear piece with a flourscent cover piece, so that the inner and outer tails match perfectly. Ive never seen your method.

that looks a little awkward since the inners still have the reflective piece, but i guess if you cleared out the inners, it might look better...but then you loose all reflectiveness and i don't know how legal that would be ...but to each his own

mine cost me around six bucks. 2 for the clear part, 4 for the bulbs. use a hairdryer on max, it just takes a little while longer. be patient thoguh, one pry too hard and SNAP! happened to me but it is so small no one ever notices it. i almost had a heart attack though.

It looks weird in the picturer, but the inners and outer both match. Believe me!

so you just dunk the lenses in hot/boiling water for a couple of minutes, and pull them apart? did you have to cut any of the glue? This (in some ways) makes more sense than the heat gun method - equal amounts of heat at all parts, boiling water temp is 212.9F as opposed to the 400-600F temps produces by a heat gun, so there shouldn't be any warping....hmmm. i may try this out in a couple of weeks, and I'll take pictures too.

I filled the tail lights with water dumped the rest of the water in the sink let sit for 3 - 5 mins and pulled the lights apart. No cutting of glue no tools reqiured and no chance of warping.

I put it in the oven at 250 degrees for 10 minutes, checking at 5 minutes to make sure, then pulling them apart with oven mitts....

Like butta.
