Samsung SM52xx in Korea

Got these from Jay Lee here in SoCal, who evidently just got back from Korea...

It appears to be a Samsung-built version of the Cefiro, with a VQ20 (VQ20DD I'm assuming).

It's not called the Cefiro, either. Just the SM52xx... I've heard of Taiwanese companies building Mercedes S-classes in Taiwan under their own name, but this is the first I've heard of Samsung doing anything like this.

Anyway, thanks for the pics, Jay! He thought it'd be interesting.

My mom actually drove the previous incarnation of the SM5
I believe the coding actually stands for "Samsung Maxima"...
Samsung was trying to fit into the lucrative korean car market (because most koreans just buy korean cars, b/c imports there are sooo expensive)
It was a 4th gen Max, and as i have driven several 4th gen max's as well as the SM5, i can attest to the fact that it's the EXACT same car... just some of the stereo equipment is written in korean and the badges all say samsung instead of nissan...

Darn you beat me to it. I'm stationed in Korea right now and I see those things everyday. I was going to take photo of several of the cars here and post them on the org. Oh well nice pics.

they are license built Nissan Cefiro 2.0L

Korea has STIFF import duties one cars to protect their domestic market... so Nissan licenses Samsung to produce the cars most of them end up being taxis hehehe

SM5200 thats it right?
the 'Mercedes' you see in Taiwan is also sold in Korea I think its made by Hyundai its the Hyundai Chairman 500 or 600 with either a 2.8L Benz V6 or a 3.2L Benz V6

when you're in Korea keep an eye out for the Hyundai Equus!! those are some nice cars!

I love the tails on the SM5200 looks so sweet compared to the Max

plz keep in mind that korean cars in korea are a different breed than the hyundais, kias, and daewoos that are here in the states. they have some niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice cars there! the korean cars in the states suck bc they are all predominantly economy cars made to be "affordable."

Nope, the new SCC(Tuned RSX-Ss on the cover) says GM took ownership, and probably regrets it already.

You know, I'm not sure...

http://cars.uhome.net/nissan/

VQ20DE looks like 155PS in the Maxima, or 152.88HP.
