Is there a way to open the sunroof while keeping the interior sliding panel shut? There's something mechanical that prevents the panel from closing farther than the glass.

I have about a pound's worth of dead bugs up there and can't get a vaccuum wand up in there. I'm afraid of blowing air to get the bugs out since I don't know what would prevent them from going back into the sunroof motor etc.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

the interior panel's track is attached to the sunroof thus limiting its forward movement when the sunroof is opened.

You can try one of two options. Try using something else besides a vacum cleaner (maybe something with static electricity)

(Not recommended )or dissassemble your interior (headliner) to get access.

Or you can just leave the bugs be.

 

This has been discussed before. Try searching. I remember that there were some and good creative ideas for cleaning the shade.

 

Ha! I thought I was the only one. Man, mine is an aquarium of bugs, leaves and other junk. The best you can do is tilt the sunroof and come in from the outside with a small vacuum attachment. Good luck.

 

Doh, that's a stellar idea. I hadn't thought of vaccuuming from the outside. I do have a real skinny crevice tool I could try.

Can I borrow it when you are done?

 

This is what I did:

First, close the sliding panel and tilt the sunroof, then go to a gas station and use the compress gas to blow through the opening. This will blow away most of the bugs, leafs...

Then I open the sliding panel a little bit, use a duster with long handle to sweep the top of the panel through the tilt sunroof. There will be some stuff going into the car, but then it is easier to clean. I always do this before I clean the interior.

 

I do the same with a vacuum, then use a coathanger with Duct Tape on the end to get the hard to reach stuff.

Duct Tape is like the Force.
