I have tried so many different things. The stains probably originated from me putting too much Rain-x on my windshield, ...thats the only thing I can think of. The stains run right down the front windshield, and nothing seems to clean them. I have tried Windex, Baking soda in water mix, Vineger and water mix...(told this would work from glass company), straight vineger, and finally today I tried Denatured Alcohol. Any clues into what will work will be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you in advance for any input !!!!!

 

I've heard that fine steel wool and windex will do wonders for your windows. (!!Warning!!)don't do the insides if you have tint. seriously though hit the hardware store get the (fine)steel wool and you'll be happy with the result.

 

thats what happened to my dads van. we also used the alcohol but it took a very long time before it finally went away. basically we used alot of alcohol and alot of towels. We probably used up a whole bottle of it but it worked

 

Also, I dont know if it will work but maybe try some liquid dishwashing detergent since that mught help disolve the greassy film

 

steel wool and elbow grease

 

I keep a white (the least abrasive) plastic scrubber in my car cleaning bucket. This works great on the outside windows and bugs on the paint when washing the car. DON'T use the red or worse yet black plastic scrubbers as they will scratch the finish.

 

Polish them out with any automotive polish or white compond. The glass will not scratch, just don't put to much pressure on it. Meguires cleaner/wax works great. Leaves a rain-X like affect for a bit too.

 

Try Bon Ami brand cleanser (Don't use any other type of cleanser)

That should remove any oil,wax, rainX or any other residue.

Mix a paste with water and scrub the window with a sponge, when you rinse it with water the water should sheet off. If it doesn't repeat the cleanser. Eventually you should be able to get it clean

 

Use newspaper as well insteda of a cloth or whatever you have been using. It works great and I have seen it recommended all over the place as far as detail FAQ's and stuff like that goes. Worth a shot.

Steel wool on glass? Won't it scratch? I used fine steel wool on my Escort window once and it left fine scratches.

Could it be calcium deposits? I remember the water from the sprinklers at my apartment complex used to leave a residue on the paint & glass which I assumed was hard water.
It will come off but you got to spend time on it. After that, I got a car cover and parked away from the sprinklers. No more spots.

 

Thanx for all the input, on my way out to get some of that steel wool. I will come back and post results. I have used newspaper whenever cleaning my windows in the past, I agree, I like the job it does, just doesnt touch this one. From my past experiences with
Rain-X, I would say it works good at first, but DON'T use it, makes a friggin mess. Thanx everyone that replied to post.

 

I've found RainX to be very effective! It is a real pain to wipe off the haze once you let it dry but if you look at the glass at an angle, you can see whether the haze has been wiped off. I've been using it repeatedly and no problems.
