noisy cabin in 2001 SE

I am new to this forum, but have not found any information about the excessive cabin noise in the 2001 SE. I have had them replace the seals around the rear windows(thanks to the post on a technical bulletin), but am still disappointed with the excessive road and wind noises. Has anyone had their car soundproofed? I thought maybe replacing the door seals might help, so next time the car is in for oil change I will have them do that. Maybe because it is an SE and has low profile tires it is noisier. I am almost to the point of getting rid of it and getting a Town Car or Park Avenue. Can anyone give me any ideas. So many people are happy with their Maximas, I thought I would be too. Maybe I am too fussy. Thanks for any help.

Towncar or Park Avenue? Those are COMPLETELY different style cars. I think my grandparents drove a Towncar.

I'm guessing you haven't done any mods to it..ie muffler, etc. Do you still have the stock tires? If you have added Z rated tires, then that will make a difference in noise levels... Is it exhaust noise or road noise?

This is strange a new se maxima usually drives quite, without hearing any sound from your tires. Maybe it's something else, but wouldn't be the tires. I had cabin noise a little in the winter, but it's gone now. I think it was because the car is a little stiff, but when i was 100% stock no noise.

i have a 2000 se and i also have this problem. i dont think the
window TSB can help me because i dont believe its a problem that
can be fixed. sadly, the maxima is just not as quiet as an
infiniti... even a g20.

im planning on purchasing these vent shades. im pretty sure it will
eliminate much of the windnoise. they can be purchased here:
http://www.custommaxima.com/AutoVentShade.html

road noise is something we'll just have to live with.
i dont mind road noise as much so thats okay.

Thanks for your posts. The car is completely stock. The stock tires are Potenza 17 inch low profile.
i will check on the wlindow shades mentioned. As for the Town Car or Park Ave, I know they are old people cars, but they are very quiet and get the same gas milage as my Maxima. We are only 40 years old, and my husband liked the 222HP idea of the Maxima, but he doesn't have to drive it every day and listen to the noises.

i dont like how the window shades make the car look as much but i
hate the windnoise. im hoping theyll grow on me. also, rather than
getting a lincoln or a buick you should consider an infiniti. my
younger sister has a G20 and my parents have a Q45. they are both
superb cars and it pains me to say this but are quieter in the cabin
than my maxima.

good luck!

try having a conversation with friends if theyre in the backseat at highway speeds. yes, theres some roadnoise but even on smooth highway the windnoise is so loud that the people in the front have to practically shout!!

LCF..
When the car was my stepdads I spent a lot of time in the back. On road trips. I did not think it was that loud back there at all, and I take people with me on trips all the time and have not Yell to talk to them all. I think the max is rather quite. but then my car before the max was a 94 altima.

yelling would be an exaggeration of what i mean. most certainly though, i have to speak at a louder than comfortable volume to be heard by my passengers in the back. it sucks. and yes, quite possibly coming from a lower model car youre happier with the improvement. i dunno man, it just sucks that my ride cant be as quiet as an infiniti even though it performs just as well as one.

I have done a few cheap and simple things that helped a lot. Take some carpet scraps (or the sample rectangles most of us have lying around) and put them under the front seats - padding is thin there. Put some insulation (I used old style carpet padding) under the back seat bottom - there's nothing but bare metal there and the seat comes out very easily. If you have the stock sound system you can stuff the subwoofer hole in the rear deck, again I used carpet padding. I also carpeted the trunk. These things definitely made a difference to me. I have heard tales of complete dyno-matting - in the doors etc. but it seems to me this is too extreme.

I also have it. I spend most of my time in the car on the phone for business, and sitting on the phone - yes, there's DEFINITELY some roadnoise!

i too have what i feel is a rather noisy cabin in my 2002 GLE. these modifications sound as if they would work...if it wouldn't be too much trouble, can you give or post more specific directions? do i put the carpet piece directly under the seats or under the floor lining? and also, how do i take the seats out if i need to? thank you in advance.

Just put the carpet piece on top of the carpet in front of where the floormats end under the front seats. (If you don't have floor mats you need them too for quieting). On the rear seat the bottom cushion comes out by pulling out two tabs under the front edge and pulling up and out - owners manual has pictures. You'll see where insulation can be added. Note that density of insulation counts - for carpet - Berber is better than ****, for paddinf - horsehair is better than foam <G>.
