Maxima or a Yukon??

Well.. I am in a tight situation here.. I don't know what to do.. I have the option of keeping my 2002 maxima or getting a 2000 or older yukon 2wd and lowering it on 22s or so... I dont know what to do.. I cant decide and it is really bugging me! I like the maxima its elegant looking and I get a lot of looks but in the other hand.. I like the yukon more room.. System sounds better I think.. I like to be higher up .. I feel safer in there but not sure.. I love my max.. but then again a yukon is just as nice.. what would you do?

You're joking right?... don't mess with my mind like that!... It's very fragile!

But... if you're serious: I was leasing a loaded 2door 2k 4x4 Blazer $292/mo, zero down. And I HATED it! I PAID them $1900 to take it back early! When I bought the Max, I left the Blazer at the dealer & picked it up a few days later... I though "WHAT A PIECE OF CRAP" The ride & quality/rattles suck bigtime! C'mon, aren't we all over the SUV craze?... but if you're going that way, get the MDX

Depends on your lifestyle, as to which vehicle fits your needs, also which one can you afford, also what is you driving style. Alot of factors involved.

Personally, Id go with the 2K2 Max.

I hope you are kidding...

Although its personal preference...What we all DONT need is another big ***, gas guzzling, road hogging, SUV on the road. I am no tree hugger but I HATE SUVS. They should all be blown up at the option of all the drivers behind them.

In all seriousness...I dont think they are safer in any way. Might get a higher ride but dont kid yourself on safe.

There's no way I would give up my Maxima for a Yukon or any SUV for that matter. I pretty much think that all of them are ugly and big gas guzzlers. But if you feel that you need a big truck then go for it. Just remember that you'll give up all the speed of the Maxima and if you consider the cornering abililty of the Max to be bad wait till you get in a Yukon lowered or not.

I have one of each...if you et the Yukon for the ride, do not plan on keeping the 22's...it will not be very comfortable for you...especially lowered. I like both of my vehicles, but considering you just got your 02, it would be $$$-smarter to hang in there.

Financially

be prepared, the Yukon is a serious gas guzler and with gas prices so high I would keep the Max. Also and most important are the long term issues. Do you plan on keeping eaither vehicle for more than 3 or 4 years? Because at 100K you Maxima will be running strong and that 4X4 will start to encounter some expense.

We had a New Yukon Denali "2000" I bought it for my wife. It was fully loaded the whole 9 yards. The reason why we got it, is comfort, room, looks, and reputation of GM Trucks. We got rid of it back in Feburary due to mechanical reasons. I brought the truck maybe at least 6 times back to the dealer for service. It was leaking constantly trans axel fluid. They replace the seal and so forth. To make the long story short. One problem led to another. The service people were not friendly at all. I will never buy a GM product due to the hell I went through. My advice is keep the MAX.
It was terrible in gas mileage 12/15

In general have more issues, front and rear diffs leaking, etc... I have a 98 Durango SLT with 80K and wish I would have bought a Pathfinder but unfortunately there weren't to many trucks back then that offered third row seating.

Couple of things to think about...

1. More room: what do you need more room for? I mean, just to have a more spacious cabin, or actually to carry cargo, dogs, etc.?
2. System (I take it we are referring to sound): Just upgrade to a better head unit and speakers...lot cheaper than a hit you would take on trade in for the whole car.
3. Higher up: Well, gotta admit, not much you can do here...not sure if they have a Max lift-kit but higher also means higher center of gravity and a potential for body roll and instability in extreme direction changes. Not sure afer qualifies... look at some of the wreck photos of members here and they walk away just fine.

Just some thoughts...

Re: Maxima or a Yukon??

a good point was brought up about cornering...another thing you need to consider is that you will have to take turns much more gently in the yukon. i have driven a denali briefly, and i drive an rx300 a lot as well. Even in the RX, which is supposed to be a very sedan like SUV, it is night and day in terms of agility between the max and the RX. From my brief stint in the yukon, it seemed much more truck like than the lexus. i'm not sure if you've driven an SUV for an extended period of time, but personally, i find it rather frustrating (and this is coming from somebody who drives normally - i very rarely, if ever, have driven a car at its limit).

As for safety, you may be better off in terms of passive safety because the yukon is bigger, but active safety is no comparison - the maxima will brake quicker and do an emergency evasive maneuver much more stably.

I drove a Yukon for a few hours yesterday and just kept thinking, "This thing is a tank!" It wasn't a relaxing vehicle to drive at all. You're very busy in the driver's seat. It's cool being up that high until you have to turn or stop. Unless you have a bunch of gear or three or more kids, I'd keep the Max.

the ride in an SUV that is dropped with huge rims is EXTREMELY uncomfortable.

aesthetically speaking I'd stick with the maxima
performance wise....maxima all the way
financially speaking......stick with the max

There is only one SUV out there that is pretty damn dope and that's the Bimmer X5. Now THAT's a kick *** SUV.
Any of you guys ever drive one of those things?

I have to agree 100% with you on this. Our 4Runner is a boat. It is a smaller SUV with a pretty nice suspension setup(as opposed to the competition), but I still hate hate hate driving it. You can see above most cars, but this is irrelevant since everyone drives trucks, vans and suvs.

SUVs(unless really used as intended-offroading, towing, camping, etc) are basically poseur-mobiles. Maybe 5-8 years ago it was unique/cool to have one, but I feel like a lemming driving one today.

What I need to know is how do I convince my wife to trade it off on a G35???

if you want the yukon because its higher up why would you drop it...?

no matter what you do, its gonna behave like a 5000lb vehicle that sucks gas, very hard to park, hard to drive aroundtown and handle like a big heavy SUV

I AGREE....Keep the max...I'm 6'5" and I am looking into getting a truck but I'm definately keeping my max...its older than yours but its still a beaut!....not to mention the hours I've spent modding and cleaning the beast...

If the Yukon is 2000 I would get it, just because they are only one body style old. Anything older and you switch to another style. Also, if you can afford the gas and all that and get 22"s, I would go with it. We had an Expedition on 20" Lorinsers, dropped, and the ride was not bad at all. But everyone has their own opinion... I personally like SUVs and hooked up ones, but gas prices...

SUVs have an awesome interior and space. If you like that then go for the Yukon. If you want something smaller and easier to drive then go for the Maxima. It all depends on ur lifestyle so go with the one you like the most.

ps - don't forget this is a Maxima thread, i think most of us will go with the Maxima

I was considering a 2K2 Denali . But I ended up buying the Maxx, after 2 years of SUV ownership, it was time for some speed !

imo if you need the yukon's room to load up all your stereo stuff you might as well invest it in a good home theater system since it'll never sound as good.

There really is no comparison between the two. I traded a 99 Yukon in on my 2K2 maxima and love it. The Yukon was nice but to big for me, and drank the gas. If you plan on putting 20's on the Yukon get ready for vibration and a rough ride, I know b/c I see it everyday( I am a service manager at a GMC dealer). Go for the max you wont regret it.

Youre right about that. I drove in an Escalade a few days ago with 24's....it was a horrible ride, compared to stock, the Speedo was off , BIG TIME, and pushing that weight, with 300+ HP == LOTS OF GAS $$ ! Of course in AZ , its a lot cheaper !..remember, the bigger the SUV , and the wheel, the more $$ coming out of your pocket. By the way, the regular YUK loks WEAK next to the Denali ! I can tell you have taste Justina !

you should check out one of the west coast threads, a lot of us are single too.

how are the roads over there in AZ? i'm in CA so the roads are pretty smooth so either ride would be smooth and not bumpy.
