I told them I'll do it myself. I spoke to Sudz about this but what are your opinions about the involvement to change both belts?

That idler pullet may give you some hassle. The long bolt that the pulley spins on sits inside the support bracket a certain way. The bolt is grooved to only sit one way properly. Best thing to do is turn the bolt until you feel it stick out the most thru the pulley, then tighten everything. When it's off the track, so to speak, it squeals like crazy! You'll know the moment you start the car.

These instructions may sound strange now, but you'll understand once you get on those belts

Belts

$130 seems pretty high. I looked into doing this myself. I think to get OEM belts cost about $25 (maybe cheaper over the internet). Labor doesn't look too difficult, but I was unsure about getting them to the right tension. My local dealer did it for $60 total, so I figured I just let them do it...

It's relatively straightforward. The hardest part is loosening and dropping the power steering pump, you have to go at from the back and under the car. I needed several extensions and a swivel joint.

Maybe you can help me with it if you have the time.

Jeff K,

I also printed out your info page.

I've heard several comments about another tune-up day. Maybe we can do it then.

The main belt takes about 10 minutes to change. You'll need a 14mm wrench and a deep socket and extension (sorry I can't remember the socket size). Loosen the idler bolt locking bolt on the inside of the idler (access from the fender with splash guard off). Then take the socket and loosen the idler tension. The pulley will start to lower. 4mm of slack.

The power steering belt is a bit harder and will take about 20 minutes. You'll need a 12mm wrench, 14mm wrench, and a 12mm socket and rachet. First you need to loosen the bolt that locks the tensioner screw in place. Access to this is from the top of the motor, dirrectly behind the crank sensor. It just has to be loosened. Next you'll need to loosen the 14mm powersteering pump pivot bolt. Access to this is tight. The best way is thru the driveshaft opening in the fender. Reach up behind the powersteering pump and you'll see a long 14mm facing towards the engine. Take your 14mm wrench and pull DOWN. Just loosen it. Finally, loosen the 12mm tensioner screw with the 12mm socket. This will quite a few turns to loosen. Reverse order to tighten. 6.5mm of slack.
