ME vs. 5.0mustang with Intake, Headers, Hpipe, Exhaust, 4.10gears, and pulleys

I saw the 5.0 mustang up at a light, and the passenger and drive both turned their heads completely around to look at my car as I was coming to a stop at the light. My brother, riding shottie, lookes at them and asks them for a race.
The driver yells out, "Yeah! But you better say your prayers, 'cause you dont stand a chance!" By brothers quietely comments "Surrrre"
We take off and he takes me by 2 cars off the line because I not used to the new lighter rims. Once I get traction, I pull back the 2 car deficit and fly past him putting another 2 cars on him before we shut off around 85-90. As we swing a U-turn he follows quickly and pulls up next to me and yells out the window "DAMN!! HOW MUCH BOOST YOU ARE YOU PUSHIN??"

it was the 93 and older, the boxy style..
He wouldnt believe that I didnt have a supercharger, so I told him to pull over and look under my hood and proved to him that I am completely stock except my handling mods.
And I asked him what he had on his car and he listed it all... He said that he ran a 14.7 at our local track.

My '85 Stang GT ran a 14.68 with Accell 4inch filter (it was a carb), headers, and underdrive pulleys. So, that sounds right to me. He probably didn't know how to drive, or his 4.10 gears wound out too quick cause my car only had 3.08's.

How do you like those new rims?? Are they 17's???? They look nice. Are they strong enough for everyday driving???

BTW- Nice kill

yes they are 17x8" they plenty strong since im still on stock suspension and the profile on the tires arent too small. (235/45)

Im still trying to learn how to launch it tho... the torque is almost too much for such light rims (only ~14lbs)

85 Stang only had 205 Horses from Ford, no fuel injection, a Carb...86 went down to 200, and 87 was the first year of 225. In 89 the real juice started, with Mass Air..... Now that you tell me it was a 94 UP stang, I can see the matchup. Was this guy any good at shifting, from what you could tell, or was it an Auto... ? .. The 87- 93 stangs were so light, that simple bolt ons would get you into the 13's....

Actually, the 85 had 215hp, the 86 had 200 and then 87 had 225. My 85 was light as hell and whooped on later stangs. As they got older, they got heavier too. My car had 15" rims...the 87's had 16's. More crash crap on there too, as well as body cladding. My point was that my HP is pretty close to the late 80's/early 90's Stangs and since my car had NO OPTIONS (roll up windows, no air, not even a rear defrost) it was a tad lighter and thus probably pretty close to being on par with those stangs. Thus, it does not suprise me that the dude can only run a 14.7 at the tack, although his gears might be slowing him down. Also remember this: The car is 10+ years old, perhaps he needs a rebuild, or at least a new clutch.

85's had 210hp 86's 200, 87-92's225 93's 205 94-95's 215 96-97's 215 98's 225 99-03's 260. The 16" "Pony" wheel was not available until 1991 as an option on LX's and standard on GT's. Don't underestimate the 96-98's they are pretty quick, with the right mods, well namely the 98's due to a better head design. My 98 runs 13.67@99 on motor, and my friends 98 runs 13.77@99 on motor.

You are RIGHT, the 85 did have 215, my buddy had one, we just hated having to warm it up before rolling it out. Ive been looking for an 85 in MINT condition to buy and mod the hell out of it... Im sure I'll find one this year. ..

I can verify that my 89 LX Sedan ran high 12's all on MOTOR ! I bought a 150 shot just before I sold it, but I has hooking up so hard on Drag Radials that I kept breaking motor mounts. I had a Tremec T5 put in, and I was running 3.73's ... Twisted Wedge heads a B303 Cam, Full lenght headers, Off road 3 " pipe and Mac Mufflers. Louder than HELL ! I loved that car ... One day I will scan some pics and post them on my homepage....Sold it to a rich boy who tubbed it out !

Yeah, the car hated running cold. I had the hardest damn time getting it running in the spring and fall. I garaged it in the winter. I even had the Holley carb rebuilt (new gaskets and stuff) but it didn't help. I totally miss that car though. I had a red one...loved that dark grey hood stripe. It was a really fun car. Only weighed 3050lbs. I bought it for $2300 back in 1992...I sold it for $4900 in 1996 after I had repainted it and modded it nicely. Had 91k miles when I dumped it...if I ever find another one in decent condition from a non-salt state, I'm gonna scoop it up and make it a project car!

Dude, New York is a salt state! You can't even be near salt states. The cars get driven around. You will probably have to go down south, to the Carolinas to pick of a nice on. I'm out in Oregon and all the cars out here look great...even the ones that are 15yrs+ and older. No RUST! There are 1983 civics driving around and '88preludes that look great! Unreal. Even '65stangs that have no RUST at all...just tired paint. It's amazing. Just don't forget that the ocean can salt pretty good too....
