Hello all, i am new to this forum so be gentle..

I have a chance to purchase a 1999 se limited, Red 5 speed.. all the trimmings... LOTS of highway miles. 47,000 Too Much??...

First comment that i was taken back by was, he never had the front breaks done...NEVER??

The backs, only pads, once. Is that normal??
Second question, what can I expect to break in the comming year?? What should i pay particular attention to on the car?

It is very clean, driven well by a 40 yr old guy... not pounded on ,, by it will be when i get it..lol

He had the presents of mind to get a 6 yr, 100k warrantee on the car so i have some room...

With all that how much would you pay?? 99 red se Limited,5 speed all options...

Thanks for your help... hope to have the car next week and join this forum as a active participant...

Peace, Bluefish...

hey
47,000 miles isnt that much. It does seem like alot for a 99. If the brakes were babied then the fronts might not have needed to be replaced. The fronts should be replaced before the rears would need to as about 80% of the braking is done in front. I dont really know how much you should pay for it. hopefully someone else can help you out on that. Id say around 16-18k?? later

Just sold my 99 SE 5 speed with 20,000 miles for $18,000. Pretty fair in my opinion. I'd say 16-17,000 for 40,000+ miles since 5 speed deducts about $650 from value of the car (according to the books).

Definetely some highway miles with no braking. Pads will wear differently depending on the habits of the driver. I am really easy on mine and I replace my own pads.

It's unusual that the rear brakes will wear out before the fronts. I don't go hard on my brakes, but they do wear out very quickly...every 30k or so.

I've put over 47K miles onto my car with the brakes that were on it when I bought it, and they still have a good bit left. That's with a mixture of street and expressway driving (probably more street).

SOunds like a bargain! Although I sold me 99 I kept my 95 Max 5 speed. Still has original clutch, and all brakes at 97,000 miles. I bought pads for it, but I don't want to put em on until OEMs wear out whenever that is.
