Can Someone Clairfy This About Clear Coatings??

Hi everyone...my questions is this: i've heard from a friend that with clear coatings on the car it eliminates the need for waxing the car? Is is true of just bs?
I know personally that when i purchused the car I had them put on another clear coat on it, but does it really eliminate the need for a waxing?

No

It is an extra layer of protection but it does not eliminate the need for waxing. Notice on a bunch of waxes it has statements like "Safe for clear coats!" Gotta keep your clear coat clean also, it's just another layer of paint not a magic substance that protects no matter what.

Unless he's talking about those mirror glaze coatings you put on your car that 'supposedly' does away wth a need to wax the car ... I think you still need to take it in every year or so to have it redone. Check with the detailer shop (Ziebart, etc).

I'd prefer to get up, close and personal with my Maxima using my 6" orbital buffer and several bottles of liquid caranuba wax!

partially true.
clear coat is another coating on top of the color coat. it's extremely durable (suppose to be) against weathering and fadeing.
you can leave the car dirty for a few years w/o washing and waxing and after a good cleaning the car will still shine.

now keep in mind..clear coat is just like another coating of paint...waxing it and taking care of it will help keep the clearcoat on the car...with neglect the clear coat will eventually fade/wear/flake away and you'll be left w/ the dull/satin finish of the color coat.

don't buy into the wax hype all together..paint has come a long way.

also when it says it's "clear coat safe" that means it does not contain an abrasive in the wax/cleaner. over time using waxes/cleaners with abrasive will wear away your clear coat. machine compounding and buffing should be CAREFULLY done..too much and bye bye clear coat.

You bought a brand new car and requested another coat of clearcoat? They can do that?
