ATTN: people with shaved antenna ----->>

In less than 3weeks my car will hit the shop for new paint. I decided to shave off the antenna, trunk keyhole, door moldings, molding in the stillen kit, door keyholes and a few other things.

And now that i wont have my power antenna anymore, id like to see what you guys are using antenna wise and how well they work. Im NOT goin to do the VW/is300 style antenna on the roof. And i know that glass mount antennas suck.

Any help/sugestions would be great

thanks,
Anthony

How much is all this costing you??

I'm curious because I'm painting over my car same color and shaving the trunk keyhole.

Well, most everyone I know with a shaved antenna has a roof mount like the VW\I300. Unfortuantely there really arent any other options that I'm aware of other than the glass mount ones.

I shaved my antenna

and I still get FM reception on the good, main stations. The newer stations or low budget stations with weak signals I don't get that well. And I don't get any AM at all. They did leave the wire running through the car so that's why I have some reception. But I rarely listen to the radio so I don't mind at all.

Well, like Ga said, if you have the Bose then you will have an antenna in your rear windshield but this is only good for FM. What I did was first I bought a Fuba (VW/Audi) and installed it (body color). This is in my pictures. Then I wanted something a little more unique so I bought a Zendar (its still black for now). It's adjustable from 0 to 45 degrees and looks a hair sportier than the Fuba. The Fuba, however, is power-amplified so it does get a tad better reception. But I never listen to the radio anyway. If you want, I beleive they sell antennas you can hide in your A-pillar. I'd look into that if you don't want a roof mount. Good luck.

I have a 97 SE. The manual seems to imply that all the radios use the power antenna and the rear window antenna for FM. The radio picks whichever antenna gives it the strongest FM signal.

If your in a city you might not miss the external antenna. Although you will be more subject to multipath fading.

Right, but like I said, only the BOSE system has the dual-diversity. And, like I said, you won't get AM with only the windshield antenna.

You're absolutely right. I stand corrected.

Like ptatohed said, I'd heard of an internally mounted A pillar antenna being used. Can't remember exactly where, but I'm sure you'll find some info if you search for it specifically. I'd say that is your best bet. Probably won't be 100% as good as the original, but close enough.

Why are you having your car painted? It looks fabulous. Are the images you've posted been photo touched? Or, is it that you've got enough mods dependent on a paint job that's forcing your hand? Sounds like the lineup of work you're having done will make the car look even better. Afterward, please post your costs... curious to know what it takes.

Right, a pillar antenna is the way to go. I found three for you at Zendar:

http://www.zendar.it/

Not the most user-friendly site as most of it is in Italian but it'll do. Go there, choose "Antennas/AM", then choose "AM/FM car antennas". You have three to choose from:

http://www.zendar.it/catalogo_1/ante.../zendar_1.html
http://www.zendar.it/catalogo_1/ante.../zendar_2.html
http://www.zendar.it/catalogo_1/ante.../zendar_3.html

FYI, my new one is this one:
http://www.zendar.it/catalogo_1/ante.../zendar_4.html

E-mail me if you want to buy one, I'll give you my contact. Mine was only ~$35.

well up close the paint has alot of chips/scratches that i cant stand anymore. Plus i rearended someone like 2weeks ago and not the front bumper is slightly bent inward and the paint spiderwebbed all over. So i figured if its goin in for the new bumper and paint for the hood/fenders as well i might as well paint the whole deal and shave some stuff off its only $1,000 more, lol

Re: Re: :o)

get that is300 style one tony.. you know.. the roof mount ???

um, i know you can use the security alarm antennas that stick to the top of the inside of the windshield as FM receivers, but I don't know much info about them.. you said you didnt want to, but the 7 series bmw sharkfins would look really clean.. otherwise i think you will have to go with a hidden antenna or nothing at all.

www.Autoloc.com has an antenna that is specifically for cars that have a shaved antenna. You might go there and look at that. Not sure where it is on the site though.
