I was checking out the updated Stillen website and came accross something funny..

I got this from the Stillen Supercharger section..

STILLEN Maxima Supercharger. Motor Trend Magazine tested one of our supercharged SMX Maximas (December 1998) and got the following results: 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds (stock was 7.4). Their ?mile time was 14.4 seconds at 98.8 mph vs. stock at 15.5, 90 mph. Their conclusion: ...a roomy...four-door that humbles prestigious sport sedans costing double, trip or quadruple (as much). The experience of a Maxima equipped with our STILLEN Supercharger is awesome.
Come on.. $3500 and only 14.4 secs?? I've seen alot of N/A maxima's do better with just basic BPU mods!!.. Motor Trend must have a terrible driver or perhaps they tested a stock 5spd and a SCed auto!!!..

Well the 0-60 is pretty damn good. The price is high on superchargers and that's why I won't be getting these, you get a lot more from NOS for less.
Thanks,
Paul

I think the Max. they tested was an auto. And that is about right. But only if the SC is the only mod and it has the stock pulley. Start adding mods like Y-pipe, smaller pulley, exhaust, VB mod etc. and it should be low 14s, high 13s.

It was a tan 98 5spd maxima with, 17X8 MOMO arrows, 235/45/17 Yok's, stillen exhaust, type 2 wing, bodykit and supension mods(springs, shocks, RSB, FSTB). IIRC the issue was from November 98. When I read this artcile I started saving for my 95 max

14.4 isn't right for a stick shift with an SC and exhaust.

P.s. What is "IIRC"?

Yeah, that sounds about right for an automatic... And that is what is most likely was... how did motor trend get their hands on a supercharged Maxima.. They do not normally test drive "modified" cars. This was most likely the SMX maxima, all of which were automatic if I am not mistaken (at least the ones i have seen or known of) and there was like a 100 of them made, there were a few people on here with them. This Max was equipped with a few Stillen goodies like the supercharger and some suspension mods, also Momo Arrows.. for an automatic, with a stock pulley and cement heavy rims, that's not too bad.

I think because they were actually sold through Nissan dealerships.

Oh, o.k. You're right, kinda cheesey. For some reason I always took the "II" to be a roman numeral '2'. I'm like what the heck is 2RC?

I still have that magazine. It was a 5spd max. You can't go by magazine times anyway. I don't think motor trend tests at a track, they do it on the street. I think that time is respectable with those 800lb. wheels. It was not a full article, it was the little write-up that they do in the middle for different modded cars. I have another motor trend or car and driver whee they tested a modded max along with other modded cars (Taurus SHO, 626, Aurora). It was equipped with a "Stillen ECU". When I read that, I was like .

It was funny because he added the S/C afterwards, and then when it needed warranty work he took it in and told them that it came with it.

The Oct.'98 Road&Track issue called it SuperMax so I figured that's what SMX stood for.
