Maxima performance

I have done a bit of research and found that the 95-96 Maxima were the fastest years. Now I was looking to get a SE 5-spd with the GLE options. I was wondering if anyone has dyno charts and stuff for their stock 95-96 5-spd Maximas.

Also, what is the gen 4 Maxima rated for HP and torque at the crank from the factory and at what RPMs?

Also, if I am considering the purchase of a 95-96 SE 5-spd, what should I look for or get examined/checked out? Is it a good idea to do a compression test on the engine? What about other inspections... anything that I should look for in particular?

Thanks.

The other guys will confirm this: beware of the knock sensor

Use the search, I read a lot on the org. while doing my research.

I have heard about 95's being the fastest 4th gen., but not all are faster than any other 4th gen. The difference is minimal, and not really noticible. All 4th Generation Maximas come with 190 HP at the crank and 206 torque (I think), not sure what RPM. Yes, one thing to watch out for is the Knock Sensors

Another question I have is that, if I get aq 95-96 Maxima SE with climate control and stuff... would I be able to replace the headunit and component speakers?

The reason I ask this is because it seems like the whole stereo/climate control/etc seem to be 1 unit. Is it possible to put an aftermarket head unit in there, the way the stock panels are set up?

You might also want to calculate the power/weight ratio for the different year's models. I recall reading the 95/96 years are a bit lighter than 97-99 models.

The fastest max is the 95-96 gxe. they are very light and if you get one with the 5-speed, they are a helluva deal and are quicker than other maximas.

Putting in an aftermarket head unit is no problem and does not interfere with the climate control. The only problems with putting in head units are if you have the BOSE system. Other than that it should be fine, just get the kit for it. I put a Kenwood deck in my 97 and had no problems with it, blends in great.

i can almost guarantee that any '95 with 60K miles will have knock sensor issues. i have had two 95's now and both have knock issues. anyways, '95 GXE 5-Speed with C and C package will be the fastest stock 4th gen. the c and c package eliminates the governor and the gxe was the lightest. '95 and '96 also have different emissions than '97+ i think. but either way, 190 HP, 195 TQ

I have 64k miles on my '95 SE and the knock sensors are fine. One of my sister's knock sensors is going bad, but it has 174,000 miles on it.

That's true..the '95 GXE 5spd will do 0-60 in 6.5 stock if driven properly.

. but either way, 190 HP, 195 TQ
No...190HP and 205 TQ at the crankshaft.

What problems can I expect if the Maxima I get has a BOSE system, if I want to install an aftermarket headunit?

I will be installing aftermarket component speakers, 6x9s, amps, subs too.

Also, for the knock sensors, if I take the car to a Nissan dealership, can they check it out for me before I buy it? I am currently considering one of 3 or 4 Maxima SE 1995-96 models.
